I loved this book! It covers more topics than any other beginning watercolor book I have read. Each lesson is illustrated to demonstrate the technique they are explaining. Tips are given as well for each lesson... some obvious, some pretty insightful!

Yes, it does have a lot of drawing technique lessons and such, but as I like to do a full drawing before painting, I think those sections are very helpful. And it is giving me more ideas about combining drawing with watercolors.

I learned a lot from this book, and I would highly recommend it to anyone starting in watercolors. Especially if you prefer to draw your paintings first before putting paint to paper.

However, for traditional plein air aritsts that paint without drawing, maybe this book isn't for you. For you, I would suggest looking at a copy at the bookstore before purchasing.

I was extremely disappointed with this volume as I purchased it after being so delighted with RD's complete watercolor set. I thought I would get more of the beautiful and informative art that, that set had, but no......The book is pale and under illustrated and what color work there is childish and uninspiring.
Moreover, the book is almost entirely too much about drawing and not enough about painting. While this might be good for an absolute beginner with little intelligence who is still fixated on words it is not at all for someone wanting the visual stimuli to paint along with great examples. Search elsewhere for a comprehensive book on Water Color Painting!

One of the ways in which I select a book to buy is to first see can I check it out from my local library. This was the case with, The Ultimate Watercolor Course: Simple Techniques to Paint Like the Pros by Readers Digest. After reading this book, amongst many, I knew that I wanted to own a copy. Why? Because of its abundance of easy to understand knowledge on the subject of Watercoloring (especially for the beginner painter).

If you need a book to teach you how to paint watercolor step by step for totally beginner, then don't buy this book. But if you already know how to paint,what you want paint, but you don't know how to put it on paper and you need more paint technic and over all skill ideas, this book is perfect for you. At lest it's perfect for me.

Really enjoy the book. I am taking a beginner watercolor painting class and the teacher is using it for the course guide.

Beside being a great book for learning , it is an excellent resource book for teaching art. The steps to each technique are clear and simple with room for one's own creativity.

This is a good book with some fine content for beginners and beyond BUT it has the identical content of Watercolour Challenge: Practical Painting Course a book which I already own.

There is no warning of this on the Amazon web pages nor indeed in the books themselves.

As a result I am now $20 down so please don't let the same happen to you.

I bought the Ultimate Water Color Course (new)from Claxton Classics through Amazon. The book arrived in perfect condition and faster than expected. I am very pleased with the results and the very good price. I had checked this book from my local library and loved all the techniques to make my watercolors better. A great book!
