great tab book for a great price!,
This review is from: The Ultimate White Pages Guitar Vol. 1 A to Z (Paperback)
This is probably the best rock tab book I own. The tabs are detailed but not so much so that they are confusing. Most of the strums are notated as slashes instead of showing every single missed note in the chord. You can't beat the song selection for the price. For the most part it is very accurate. Of course it doesn't have EVERY great guitar song, but it's pretty comprehensive, especially with the Warner Bros catalog.

Not the best, but not the worse..,

This review is from: The Ultimate White Pages Guitar Vol. 1 A to Z (Paperback)
Ok, this book is worth about $20.00 at most. Here are the books Pros and Cons:
Cons: Well for many people including myself, I am not Slash yet. So I need easy songs, to learn to play, and pratice to get better. So trying to play "Free Bird" and "Erupton" are not going to help me get better. This book has some easier songs like: Free Falin', Livin' On A Prayer, You Give Love A Bad Name, and White Wedding Part 1. But overall there are a lot of hard songs that give new guitarist a hard time learning. Also, there are no Metallica, Aerosmith, Guns 'N' Roses. Come on, those are awesome bands with great songs! You can leave them out if your going to make a guitar tab book! I also wish that it can with a CD to listen to the songs, because I don't know some of the songs in the book. Pros: I have gotten to learn about 3 full songs to play on my guitar from this book. I think maybe soon I will be able to play really hard songs, but for now, I am happy. If you have enough time, and you are committed to learn I think you could learn all the songs in the book. I am happy too that they have at least Van Halen in the book. I am happy they did that, I am also happy about Def Leppard, and Boston being in this book too. Overall the book deserves a 4 star rating. Here is the song list for the book: Sour Girl performed by Stone Temple Pilots Old Man performed by Neil Young Southern Man performed by Neil Young All The Young Dudes performed by Mott the Hoople Well Done, Easy to Follow and Play Rock Sampler,
By
This review is from: The Ultimate White Pages Guitar Vol. 1 A to Z (Paperback)
First the quality: very good, with chord diagrams, notation and tabulature. It's a clear and easy way to learn the songs. Lyrics are easy to find, though small. It is an eclectic sampler of every decade of rock since the 50's including Fats Domino, Korn, Van Halen, the Eagles, Pantera, Don McLean and Sheryl Crow. Really good songs cover most rock styles...and that's where it shines.

Great book (with at least one very kid-unfriendly selection),
This review is from: The Ultimate White Pages Guitar Vol. 1 A to Z (Paperback)
This (same ISBN, same selection of songs) book is now titled The Ultimate White Pages Guitar Vol. 1 instead of The Greater Guitar White Pages. (I've bought a copy under each name, and compared the song list on the back cover with the corresponding Amazon image.) It has 230 songs, many of them great, from five decades of rock, shown in musical notation and (depending on the song) tab or chord notation.
Selections chosen at random: "All Star"; "California Dreamin'"; "Good Golly Miss Molly"; "I Wanna Hold Your Hand"; "The James Bond Theme"; "Layla" (both versions!); "Miserlou" (that surf song that briefly cuts into "Hava Nagila"); "Rock & Roll Band"; "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around"; "Wanted Dead or Alive". We gave a copy to a 16 year old with fairly liberal parents; he played it almost nonstop for three days. We then bought a copy for a 14 year old with fairly conservative parents, and only then noticed Sublime's "Date Rape" on the list; still haven't decided what to do about that. For adults I'd rate it 5 stars out of 5.

EDK007's Song List Is Not in this Book!!!,
This review is from: The Ultimate White Pages Guitar Vol. 1 A to Z (Paperback)
We ordered this book after reading a review. The songs listed by EDK007
are not in the book at all!!! For example under "A" the reviewer listed these songs: Aerials All Apologies All Day And All Of The Night All The Small Things All Your Love (I Miss Loving) American Woman None of them are in the book... in fact not one song listed is in the book! Amazon should be more watchful over the reviews they receive! |
