3.0 out of 5 stars Decent story, too pricey
Don't purchase this new, unless you're a collector. It's a fun story, but not one you'll read over and over. Recommended as a used purchase.

This review is from: Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk (Hardcover)
Wolverine and the Hulk have been at odds since, well, since Wolverine first started appearing in comics, making his debut in the old Incredible Hulk series back in the 70s. Well, even in the Ultimate universe, some things just never change. The often delayed Ultimate Wolverine VS Hulk is finally here in a collected format, and is a wild, audacious blast from beginning to end. Honestly, who would have ever thought that we'd see Wolvie get ripped in two and still live to take on the Green Goliath? Written by Lost alum Damon Lindelof and wonderfully drawn by Secret Invasion artist Leinil Yu, Ultimate Wolverine VS Hulk is ridiculous to its core (an exchange between Wolvie and Nick Fury has to be seen to be believed), and it's all the more enjoyable for it regardless.

4.0 out of 5 stars Adamantium Laced bones, joints thats another story, March 21, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk (Hardcover)
Good story, great art and good action however. There could have been more added to it, in terms of the fight, Wolverine is taking on the Hulk and one could argue that every thing happened so fast and there was no time to react, but it would have been nice to see Wolverine do what he is best at, and now we know that his joints are not Adamantium laced.

The story does go back and forth before it gets back to the main event, but the dialogue had me laughing so I didn't mind the build up process. If your hoping to find a great fight between Wolverine and the Hulk you might be disappointed where Wolvie is concerned but the dialogue and the art makes up for that.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Bad, January 28, 2010

This review is from: Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk (Hardcover)
After being pleasantly surprised by Ultimate Origins, I began looking forward to this book. Ultimate Origins was o.k. but I was hoping for more action. Normally I don't prefer this, but all I really wanted some good ol' claws to the wall action. I was hoping for a good story but would've of been perfectly entertained just watching the Hulk and Wolverine duke it out. Don't get me wrong, story is very important but I was willing to make an exception in this case, but even that wasn't enough to like this comic.

Before I even get into the story I'll have to warn you that Wolverine does not actually make contact with the hulk once in the entire story. Not one slash, kick, punch, stab, or bite. Nothing. The whole of the action seems to rest on the single fact that the Hulk rips Wolverine in half. I don't consider this a spoiler because it's on the front, and even says so on the back. In fact, there's at least a panel of it in 4 out of the 6 issues! In 3 of those there's multiple panels and pages of it.

O.k the story. I don't even know where to start and neither does this comic apparently. It jumps forward and backwards and sideways and in and out, all for no real purpose. I'm a huge fan of the Ultimate universe and got to see Wolverine completely reduced to a mindless murderer. If this story took place before any of the Ultimate Xmen, then that might make some sense. Instead he's on a killing mission for no other reason other than it being "fun". Plus he continues to go after the Hulk even after Fury seriously wrongs him??? I won't say what he does but I will say that I've never seen anything like it in all my 15 years of reading Wolverine Comics. There is a definite reason for this.

So the good. I gave it 2 stars because I really liked the artwork and some of the dialog made me laugh. The art really was fantastic and I hope more comics pay attention to this.

All in all you'd be better just looking at the covers to each of these comics in order. They look great, show really cool action, and make a lot more sense than the actual comic.

3.0 out of 5 stars The rumble in the himalayas, October 24, 2011
The title and cover art are at odds with each other - "Wolverine vs Hulk" and then a picture of Hulk ripping Wolverine in half. Not much of a matchup, eh? While the fight between the two is brief and one sided, the title says nothing about the third party that gives Hulk a run for his money, and the real story behind the fight.

I've never read anything by Damon Lindelof before but I think he got the characters down really well and enjoyed his globe-trotting bounty hunter storyline that suited Wolverine down to the ground, even if his style of jumping around in the story got a bit annoying at times. Leinil Francis Yu's artwork is great and was right for the story. His "zen Hulk" was particularly good.

"Vs" books are only meant to be fun and I think Lindelof got that and produced a fun, exciting book that at least showed Wolverine's ingenuity rather than simply his indestructibility and brute strength when it came to fighting the big green giant. A diverting and entertaining read, I'd give this 3 and a half stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the wait..., August 18, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
So this title took FOREVER to finally complete, but it was worth it.

The story isn't just a Wolverine vs. Hulk story that you would commonly think it is. It introduces a new She-Hulk into the Ultimate Universe, and as a whole is a pretty entertaining story. There are a few times I laughed out loud at things in it.

The art is also very good. Ever since Lenil Yu was introduced to me, I loved his stuff. He makes the effort to make everyone look different, and his art is full of action. Some of it is "sketchy" at times, but its nothing to shake a finger at. The only thing about the art though is that the book took so long to complete, his art style changes a bit near the end of the book. It's not a drastic change by any means, but you can tell that by the time the book came out he found his groove.

All in all its a really fun read and I would recommend it to anyone. You don't need to really have read any Ultimates books or Ultimate X-Men books before you pick this up either. If you know who the Hulk is and Wolverine, you are good to go. A HIGH 4 out of 5 for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars great Ultimate story, July 12, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
If you are not familiar with the Ultimate universe (as Im not) you will enjoy this story, its good the character development its great (you understand the reasons why they are there), a couple of twists in the original story of the marvel universe made he story even greater at least for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Highly Entertaining, April 28, 2010

The Idea of The Hulk and Wolverine fighting is just plain fun to imagine, and in fact has been imagined several times. This interpretation of the two squaring off is very good. The artwork is great, and the characters are a lot of fun. The story and overall plot are so-so, but with this you can expect that as the overall idea is what will hook you, to see two of the biggest figures in the comic book world fight it out. This alone makes it more then worth the purchase

Seemed like this book took forever to finally get done but it's worth the wait. It is definitly a stand alone story in the Ultimate Universe but it's one of its better one's. Great action and pretty humerous. The one huge negative is the introduction of the Ultimate She-Hulk. Could have done without it.

The art is really good but the story it is an imitation of Mark Millar crude way to tell a story, it's not bad but introducing the new she-hulk it did not help at all.
