Product Description
The unthinkable has happened as the X-Men find themselves reeling from the devastating events of Ultimatum. A band of humans have stolen Sentinel technology and attacked Xavier's mansion - killing any mutant they see! With the X-Men locked in battle with Magneto, can anyone save these students? Their greatest hope might rest in the hands of their worst enemy as the Weapon X program returns! Also, Ultimatum has hit the planet hard and the Baxter Building was ground zero. Johnny is still missing. Dr. Storm is dead. And Reed has taken off to parts unknown. Sue's life hangs in the balance and rests in the hands of untested pilot Ben Grimm, a.k.a. The Thing, and Dr. Arthur Molekevic, now better known as the megalamonical Mole Man. Collects Ultimate X-Men #98-100 and Ultimate Fantastic Four #58-60.

4.0 out of 5 stars No connection between the FF and X-Men in this book., May 13, 2009

(REAL NAME)
First off let me say that it's pretty obvious that with this book Marvel is trying to get fans of Ultimate X-Men hooked on the Ultimate FF and vice versa. The two teams have absolutely no contact with each other in the collection. The first half is all Ultimate X-Men and the second half is all Ultimate FF.

Both stories relate in some fashion to Magneto having laid down some sort of ultimatum and then using his powers to flood a big chunk of New York City. In reaction to that the surviving X-Men are looking to take him out for good but Magneto is a little ahead of them because he figures if you aren't with him then you are against him. Magneto's move also stirs up human anti-mutant feelings so the X-Men are getting it from more than one side even as they try to locate Magneto.

The FF side of the story is more about Sue being seriously injured after deflecting a large portion of the flood caused by Magneto. Reed is off searching for a way to help her. Ben & what's left of the Baxter Building crew are trying to save Sue and locate Reed and Johnny who are both missing.

The X-Men part of the book is okay but it strongly reminds me of why I don't regularly read any of the X-books, Ultimate or 616, anymore. Same old stuff. Everyone hates mutants. Favorite characters get over used and over powered. Characters killed just to elicit the "I can't believe they killed...." when you know that this being an X-book that character will be back as soon as an author or enough fans want it to be that way.

On the FF side it focuses mostly on Ben Grimm (the Thing) and why he and Reed are such good friends. Some nice flashbacks to when they were kids. I also liked the Thing's interaction with Sue, the Mole Man and General Ross. We see how Ben will do pretty much anything for his friends and that sort of bravery and dedication might open up some new opportunities for him in the Ultimate Universe besides just being the muscle of the FF.

The FF story also introduces the Ultimate versions of Namora, Tigershark and Doctor Dorcas.
