I have been disappointed with Ultra's offerings for the last couple of years, but still come back because sometimes you get Gems like this one. Ultra.Chilled 06, while not as ground breaking as 01, the music, the flow and atmosphere are on par with 01, and better than 03 and 04. Its really that good. The Basement Jaxx song,"Stay Close", sets the mood and continues all the way through disc 1. My favorite is Sharam's "The One". Disc 2 is just flows...rather than a quiet evening by the fire, this is more like a Midday Ibiza Cocktail Bar, with a cool Mediterranean breeze. I highly recommend it.

BTW: Most of the reviews are written by ultra.chilled veterans, I feel that a young listener or someone not familiar with the series would find this compilation just as groundbreaking as David Waxman's notorious ultra.chilled 01 was with me 9 years ago.

I have been a fan of the Ultra Chilled series since the first one dropped several years ago. It that time I have enlisted several of my friends and have made them UC converts as well. I would constantly check online in search of any information on Ultra Chilled 06 and had all but given up when I saw it (unannounced) at a Borders store. Knowing I could beat the price at Amazon I rushed home and ordered it. As I do with most of my music I loaded it in the 6-disc player of my car and with the first strains of the first song I thought "Great Start", but it became quickly apparent that this much anticipated CD was different from others in the series. Besides the great music that has always graced the 2-Disc sets I always loved that the music was a seamless non-stop mix. This is not the case with Ultra Chilled 06. Don't get me wrong. I love the music and thought that the choice of it was well thought out. But I am disappointed that the music is not mixed, one of the things I love about the series. If you are a fan of "Chilled" music I do suggest you pick this up mixed or not. It is good music. And to be honest this "bump" in the road will not dissuade me from picking up any more in the series should it be released. All in all it is not a bad CD for the genre.

Pretend for a minute that the Ultra chillout series hasn't been churning out mediocre, contrived, completely unnotable downtempo compilations for years now.

It's 2010. Why does this compilation exist?

There's internet radio now. Podcasts. They play thousands upon thousands of excellent downtempo songs, many of them better than anything on this collection. And those songs can in many cases be purchased for 99 cents or less in many venues, including Amazon.

What do we need Ultra for?

Time was, there was a market for creative compilations of expertly programmed songs licensed by record companies, back when the only way to hear music was on the radio. Those days are gone now, and we can download individual songs for 99 cents or even free on demand.

We don't need compilations, especially when they are as ineptly put together as Ultra Chilled 06.

Case in point: This collection includes the well-worn "No Ordinary Morning" by Chicane, which not only is a ten-year-old song but has already been featured on darn near every chillout collection ever assembled. If you own a chillout comp, you own this song already. And if you don't, you would be much better served buying any collection other than this one as an introduction.

Check out Angels: Chill Trance Essentials V.2, Hed Kandi: Winter Chill V.2 and Armada Lounge for far superior comps.

And somebody take Ultra out to the pasture already.

Great CD from a great CD line. I use teh chill line to help me relax going to bed or when up in the air flying coast-to-coast .... great music! great company!

I've got ALL of them... and this one seems to be my least favorite. BUT... it does look nice to have 1-6 in the CD booklet!
