4.0 out of 5 stars Great Placeholder, February 19, 2010
This review is from: Ultra XR Cubital Tunnel Elbow Splint, Small/Medium - Model 55466401 (Health and Beauty)
This is a decent placeholder although the positioning isn't that of what you'd get custom made (which is proper range). Having suffered from CTS (moderate with entrapment/compression at the elbow) and "Tennis Elbow", recently undergoing a Submuscular Ulnar Nerve Transposition Surgery, I'm all too familiar with tons of wraps and braces.

The best I've had was custom made by an Occupational Therapist. It's a night splint, and of the 5 Orthopedic Surgeons I've been to, all of them recommend you only wear these braces at bed time. Having the custom made types offer more comfort, they're lighter, and if you have hypersensitivity anywhere (as I do on my elbow), you can have them create cut-outs to avoid rubbing and irritation. I have Anthem BS (California) and they covered my visit and splint 100%.

I'd recommend staying on top of this condition, too. I put mine off, thinking a little numbness was no big deal. I suffered permanent nerve damage and muscle atrophy from my own negligence. If after 6 months of PT/OT doesn't help you (and you have to do your part, seriously, do the home exercises, wear the night splint, REST your arm), and your orthopedic surgeon sends you for more PT/OT and hasn't ordered a EMG/NCS - go get a second opinion. I'm lucky to have such an amazing surgeon who did an amazing job with my arm, as well as a great team of therapists to help me get the use and range back.

Again, this splint isn't garbage, but getting one made for you is the best bet. Make sure you consult with your doctor about wearing a brace, as most will tell you when and how long to wear it (don't keep it on constantly). One of my doctors didn't educate me and I ended up deflecting stress to my shoulder causing even more problems (lack of common sense on my part).

I know this is more information than just a brace review, but I wish someone had told me this some time ago so I wouldn't have let my arm get so bad. Good luck and take care of your arm(s)!
