Ultra Dance has its pros and cons.,
By hen2u2 (NYC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ultra Dance 1: Johnny Vicious (Audio CD)
I usually buy Ministry of Sound/European CDs, but since I am familiar with Johnny Vicious from what I think is his best mix ever, on Club Nation America, I decided to buy this CD and save on the Import prices.First off I must say that if you're into trance or club music the remixes of once-pop songs are crap in my opinion. They are only there because of the lyrics, and as a result they sound very odd and have to be some of the worst techno I've heard in a long time. However, the second half of CD 1 gets much better, and by the time Underwater came into the mix I had forgotten all about the original disappointment, it didn't matter anymore. The second CD is much more underground heavy techno, but for an American techno CD, this has to be one of my favorites.

Dance Anthems!!,

Ultra Dance is an amazing mix! Legendary NY producer / DJ Johnny Vicious really delivers you all the hot dance anthems that you hear in the clubs and on the radio. The tracklisting speaks for itself- Nelly Furtado, Jessica Simpson, Amber, Iio, Green Velvet, Crystal Method, etc... This is hands down one of the best dance compilations of the year!

This CD is so awesome! Songs like Amber's "Yes", Aubrey's "Stand Still", Iio's "Rapture", To be Able To Love, Resurrection, Forever, and Light A Rainbow: ROCK MY WORLD! This is one of the best techno CD's of the century. The songs I don't really like are Trippin, and La La Land. They are a discrace to music maker's everywhere! Anyway, all together, this is an awesome CD. If you like it, you have to check out DJ Encore and Engelina's award winning album "Intuition." Now that is quality listening!

Worth getting,

In my opinion, this cd offers a pretty good mix. I like how Johnny Vicious seperated the cds into Main Floor and Underground. While I get the feeling that not too many people like the Underground cd b/c it doesn't really have many words, it's still a pretty decent cd..it's more like something to unwind to after dancing up a storm. Main floor offers more of the popular songs you hear playing in the clubs, although Jerz-E clubs take a while to play songs like these (i.e. Forever by Dee-Dee). :( Many of these songs are repeated on other popular dance cds (like Louie DeVito's DanceFactory), but still its a good choice for a dance cd.

I never expected this to be such a great CD! The first one is far better of the two, in my opinion, altho' there are a few tracks on the second CD that are quite good. The songs make you want to GET UP AND DANCE! Jeez, I am 56 yrs old and I rock all the way to exercise class and back on these songs!

Orgiastic... I cannot think of a better word...,

While shopping at a local consumer electronics store, I happened upon this remarkable CD. I took it to work that evening and danced my arse off for over 2 hours... needless to say, many a customer joined in the freak fest as well. CD #1 is entitles "Main Floor" mainly due to the fact that it contains many of today's top dance floor hits. From Nelly Furtado to lio, to the Jessicas: Folker and Simpson, this CD is phantasmic. "To Be Able To Love" by the aforementioned Folker is hands down THE anthem of the past few months and is always heard blasting across the dance floor of any great club. A suprise gem on the 1st CD is "La La Land". The beat is fabulous and the lyric hilarious. Anyone who has ever felt the wonders of "E" know what I am talking about! CD #2 is called "Underground" and that is exactly what it is, hard thumping house beats that keeps your blood a-pumping all through the late night. The best song on this CD is by far "Journey to Uranus". I heard this song last year in London and everyone was laughing so hard that it was almost impossible to keep dancing. The reference to Richard Gere and a certain little furry animal is priceless. So don't hesitate and buy this set today. There isn't a better CD out there for under $20. Peace and love all!

This Could Have Been a Whole Lot Better.,
By The Groove (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ultra Dance 1: Johnny Vicious (Audio CD)
Ultra Dance is a mix double disc of uptempo dance grooves brought to us by DJ Johnny Vicious. The Main Floor, the better of the two discs, has the energetic romp of Jessica Simpson's "Irresistible" and Amber's "Yes" (both remixed by Hex Hector), while the trance stomper "Rapture" by Iio radiates. Green Velvet's robotic "La La Land" is simultaneously danceable yet irritating with its monotone spoken vocal, while we're treated to the energetic rush of the soaring "Forever," by Dee Dee. But on the Underground disc, the magic continues but falls flat real fast. The umpteenth remix of the club anthem "Hide You" by Suzanne Palmer opens up the disc, leading up to the memorable "Light a Rainbow" by Tukan. But after that, the rest of the disc gets fatally boring, which each track sounding like the one that came before it. Johnny is obviously capable of doing better, as evidenced on the superior Main Floor disc. While "Ultra Dance" has its moments, it never reaches its potential to become the great dance compilation it could have been.

I started to get sick of this new style of dance music thats goin on today. The whole pop meets dance. Its good but im not so into it. So i decided to take a look back at the old compilations Ultra Records has delivered in the past years. I decided on purchasing Vol. 1 of the Ultra Dance series.
Excellent i have to say. Its totally dance fun and energetic. Intense and eargasmic tracks. Just perfect for me since im really into the early 2000 scene of dance music. Quite a major impact of the introduction to the rest of the dance titles ever created from ultra by giving the audience a well mixed dance remix of Nelly Furtado's "Turn Off The Light" for a full on 7 minutes. Later on some slammin hits by Jessica Simpson, Amber (AWW!), iio, etc. When Green Velvet's "La La Land" i was like OMFG!!!! That was probably the first ever electro track ever put on any ultra album. And then after that a collab with new wave beaters Pet Shop BOys and superstar dj Peter Rauhofer. I totally remember hearing the classic version of "Break For Love" on GTA San Andreas. The last two tracks on this first disc kinda dissapointed me becuse of the length they were. Yah really good tracks but frickin short! Frickin Lasgo's "Something" ended up being cut off at like 1:44. And like it was weird because it featured another minute of the upcoming song. Whatever. I also noticed sum weird mixing like the bass was kinda out of place when transitioning. The 2nd disc was even more thrilling.I totally remmeber hearing Tukan's track somewhere but idk where. It was like totally rave/underground/etc idk what u want to call it. Frickin "Overdrive" by DJ SCOT PROJECT had to be the best track on the whole goddamn album. Intense and it wasnt even the original an intense remix by an anonymous dj. Again two other tracks were cut short which were pretty goodones as well. A good 145 bmp at the last "Adrenaline" by Mad Myles killin the session!! Hmm why 2 Adrenaline's??? Anyways in conclusion. I really enjoyed listening to a classic and energetic mix by DJ JOHNNY VICIOUS. Im not so into his Thrive Mix comps. Idk too simple in the mixing. God bless oh yah also i found interesting the details of the album itself. The model dancing and wearing a pretty neat outfit. The opening letter from the guy (idk who it was again)was really well and motivating and now realizing how dance music is making big impact on the world today. What we got today... Skrillex, Deadmau5, etc. Amazing comp and buy it if ur starting to get bored with todays music. Its worth it. |
