Wow... what a great purchase.I have three children, all 3 and under, and their feet grow like crazy. I felt like every time I turned my head they were out of the last shoes I purchased. Now that I have this device, I know when things are getting too small without having to worry about their toes rubbing and them getting hurt. Plus, I don't have to wrangle them in a store to get them measured because I can do it at home before we leave... a MAJOR PLUS!! It sounds crazy but this device really has made a difference in our lives.

Does exactly what I need.,

This device has proven so useful. When I think my kids may need a new shoe, I just measure them at home and off we go.When you get it, make sure to read the instructions. I use the arch measurements as well as the foot measurements to get the correct size. Even at the shoe store, the employees often neglect the arch measurements. Some stores have these devices without any arch measurement markings whatsoever (a la Payless Shoe stores). Basically, the arch measure measurement (that part that you slide to the joint of your big toe) gives a shoe size and the foot measurement (the measurement to your longest toe) gives another shoe size. Compare the arch and foot measurements and buy the larger size. The instructions are also on the Brannock company website. This device also measures the width of the foot. Both of my kids tend towards wide feet, but they seem to grow in and out of it. The Ultra Fit Jr. model differs from the other models, because it is made of plastic and only measures children`s sizes. That's fine with me. Metal is so darn heavy.

so glad to have,

So glad I have this. Nice to measure my kids feet at home and be able to buy shoes without them. Also handy to measure feet at home from time to time and know when they need to go up a size, and just grab the new shoes from the closet! Plus... Now I can buy shoes in advance and on sale!

Plastic, but not cheap plastic,

I'm glad I finally purchased this -- in fact, I should have bought this a few years ago! I knew we really should have one of these because I like to get shoes for my daughter online as our favorite brands aren't always carried in stores around here. After reading all the reviews for this plastic one and the metal one, I almost paid the $10 more for the metal one. After all, I didn't want to pay this much and have it snap in half after the first use. But I have to say, it's a thick plastic -- very sturdy. And the movable parts are connected with metal, so they move very smoothly. This doesn't feel like a cheap plastic "toy" or anything like that. I think the reviewers who said this is cheap plastic are only saying that because they were expecting metal. I am planning to take good care of this, just in case (put away from small hands immediately after use) but I really don't think it's fragile at all. Now, should it be priced like it is? Well, no. I feel like a price of $30 would be more fair, but it doesn't seem we have another choice. So I've taken away a star for the price. But it is a high-quality item, and I'm confident it will help me make better size choices for my daughter's feet. In fact, on the very first measurement I had an "aha" moment, "Oh! Your feet are now WIDE!" So I highly recommend this item for anyone who buys their kids shoes online. And yes, you can safely save the $10 and get the plastic one.

As at Aug 10th 2010 web site description clearly states: Very solid, high-quality, durable. Made of metal. Not true. Its made of plastic and is not worth $55. The most I would pay for this is $15-$20. At $55 I would expect it to be metal and strong. I am returning the one I received today for refund. More attention should be paid to vendor's product descriptions and not sure why other buyers haven't noticed the error.

I have NO idea how they can charge $50 for this this thing. Yes, it seems like good quality and it DOES work well and helps, but it's plastic and not much to it. I'd say it's worth more like $25-$30 TOPS!! However, there are few products on the market like it, so I guess this is how they can charge so much. The description says this will size most kids up until age 10. I have twin toddlers so figured I'd get my money's worth out of this. I would recommend this product but it's tough to bite the bullet and spend the $50!! Just consider how much you will actually use it over the years...kids feet grow fast!!

This product came just in time. I knew my child's feet had grown a little, but physically I am unable to drive her around and size her feet. Without guessing and buying shoes unnecessarily, this is definitely worth the money - especially if you have more than 1 toddler at home.

great way to save time by being able to measure your child's feet @ home...then, if you go to a store that has other merchandise other than just shoes, you don't have to keep your fingers crossed that they have these devices to measure sizes

My kids run wide so instead of shopping for their shoes from store to store, it's easier for me to shop online. I have two kids and plan to have more, so this is great, especially when they grow out of their shoes so quickly. I just don't want to wait until my kid starts feeling uncomfortable to know he/she's grown out of her shoe.

Lousy,

The previous reviewer who gave this product 1 star was right. This product is all plastic, which itself is not bad but when our family placed our order in March of 2011 the product description here on amazon clearly stated "Made of Metal."Since that time the company has changed the description to take out their lying claim that it is made of metal. (Hey, it's easier than just keeping your promise and delivering a product actually made of metal, right?) So, it's made of plastic, we were duped, and it's REALLY CHEAP plastic. The description of the product has been changed to "Made of Lexan." What's Lexan? Plastic. Seems that this company is bent on making sure they mislead people about their cheap plastic product. Don't know why. Some companies are just inherently dishonest, I guess. This shoe sizer couldn't possibly cost more than one or two dollars to make, so $55 is a complete and total rip-off. Of course they know that, which is why the tell you lies about it being made from metal or Lexan. They don't want to admit it's made of plastic and are purposely trying to mislead consumers. Why two stars? It measures feet. That claim is true. |
