Best hummingbird feeder ever!, December 4, 2006
This review is from: Ultra Hummzinger Hummingbird Feeder, 12 oz Red
I've been using this Aspects Hummzinger Ultra (as well as the Excel) since August '06. In my opinion, these Hummzinger feeders are the best, and I've tried over a dozen others.
The Hummzinger feeders are a breeze to fill, hang, and clean; no bottle brush necessary! And the EASY recipe for the best hummingbird nectar is printed on the under-side of the feeder. How convenient is that? In addition, they have perches for the hummers to rest on while feeding, so that they don't burn up all the calories they're trying to consume while hovering around the feeder.
I love the brass hanging rod; it prevents the feeder from tilting and dripping when the birds all sit on one side of it. These are the ONLY feeders I've ever had where the hummers will perch and feed together in groups. I frequently see 3 to 6 birds on my feeders at once since I started using using the Hummzingers; this never happened even with the largest of the other feeders I've tried. Could be coincidental, but...
The feeder can either be hung from its included hook or mounted on a garden stake/post. When hanging, these feeders are very stable in the wind compared to others, so they don't drip. And the ant moat really does keep ants out of the nectar when the feeder is hanging! (I don't think it would help as much if the feeder was mounted on a post.)
Best of all, contrary to what some others have written, the hummingbirds around here (the San Francisco Bay area) seem to LOVE these feeders. I'm purchasing several as gifts.

I think it is the best out there ..., February 24, 2006
This review is from: Ultra Hummzinger Hummingbird Feeder, 12 oz Red
... but I'm not sure my hummingbirds agree, hence only 4 stars.
This is without doubt the easiest feeder to clean. Gusts of wind that cause other feeders to slop their nectar everywhere ... this feeder handles with ease. Easy to see when it is running out, easy to see if the nectar has turned cloudy. Cloudy nectar has turned and can kill your hummers. Where it truly excels is at deterring unwelcome critters with its ant moat, and its revolutionary nectar port guards. I also think the birds feed in a much more natural position.
That said ... the "flowers" are the exact same color as the feeder. I know yellow attracts bees and wasps ... but I do think they should have used another contrasting color. The hummingbirds seem to have difficulty finding the "flowers" and tap along the entire surface. Sometimes they get frustrated and fly away.
I use this feeder and a modified (I painted the dumb yellow flowers red) Perky Pet feeder ... and I have to say ... the birds seem to prefer the Perky Pet ... much to my disappointment.

A joy to own and observe, August 13, 2010
This review is from: Ultra Hummzinger Hummingbird Feeder, 12 oz Red
I have had this feeder for 9 months now and love it for the many, many hours of joy it has brought us. I highly recommend this feeder.
The hummingbirds in this area (San Diego) love it so much that we have one or two on it all day, every day. One birdie has decided to make it his private nectar source and chases away all others! Sometimes we get up to 5 at a time, with 4 birds feeding at the ports and the extra one trying to get its beak in:). The finch fledglings we get seem to want to try feeding at this feeder, too. It's so funny watching them. I'm thinking of getting another of these hummingbird feeders soon.
This is easy to clean, easy to take apart and put up (we have ours hanging from a shepher's hook tied to our urban balcony railing), and holds just enough for a few days' feed. The volume is important because if you leave the sugar solution out too long it may ferment. Be especially wary of tiny black specks on the underside of the red cover. That is fungus and dangerous for the birds. I clean with an old toothbrush and boiling water every 3 days, occasionally with white vinegar solution and hot water. No problems so far.
Buy this one. It is a great one to start with, until your feeder gets popular!
