4.0 out of 5 stars Energetic, Yet Wearisome
I like to come home after a hard days work at the munitions plant, get a cold drink from the 'fridge, sit in my favorite chair, and listen to Wayne Newton until my microwave dinner is ready. "Toot, Toot, Tootsie, Goodbye" has got to be the best version ever recorded. "Strangers in the Night" puts the listener into a melancholy mood that Frank Sinatra's version fails to...

When Wyane Newton first burst upon the scene some forty years ago, singing"danke Schoen"and"daddy don't you walk so fast" he WAS a boy singer, with a boy's unfinished voice...He still has that same voice today, sounding for all the world like some neutered slouch crooning at the local gaybar...Newton went on to an interesting career as a one-time vegas casino mogul,he played...

"Strangers in the Night" puts the listener into a melancholy mood that Frank Sinatra's version fails to achieve. Newton is one of the most expressive male vocalists I have ever heard, but he occasionally sounds more feminine than Barbara Streisand. Hey Wayne, "Danke Schoen".

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovers of the young Wayne Newton -- Rejoice!, August 21, 1999

I'll keep this short and sweet. If you like the youthful Wayne Newton, your 10-year wait for his great Capitol stuff is over. Capitol has shamefully ignored this material ever since the CD era began (with a couple of very meager exceptions). It's not the whole catalog, of course (which I'd love to see), but 20 absolute gems. Beggars can't be choosers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Weird and Wonderful at the same time, March 23, 2003
This review is from: Ultra-Lounge: Wild, Cool & Swingin' - Artist Series Vol 4 (Audio CD)
After watching the movie Man on the Moon, I fell in love with the song Volare. (even though the guy wasn't serious when he sang it) I looked all over the internet trying to find a version of that song. I heard a clip and fell in love with this version. When I saw that it was Wayne Newton, I kept saying, "No way! this is a woman singing" I couldn't get over it so I bought the CD. Lo and Behold, it really was Wayne Newton. My husband and I love this CD. We are secret listeners because no one would believe that we like this kind of music. Buy the CD, you will be swing dancing in no time. You won't be able to help yourself! It is great

5.0 out of 5 stars bartender, pour me another martini..., September 23, 2000

I bought this CD because I love really cheesy lounge music, and I figured, what could be cheesier than Wayne Newton? Well, the music is certainly cheesy, but to my surprise, it's also damn good, and I find myself listening to it again and again. The one shock is the sound of WN's voice in those days: if you didn't know better, you'd swear it was a woman singing. But once you get over that, there's lots of great songs here: "L-O-V-E", "Volare", "More", "Toot, Toot, Tootsie, Goodbye", and, especially, Wayne's signature tune "Danke Schoen". Danke Schoen is just about the perfect lounge tune, it's catchy, hummable, wry and cynical all at the same time. So mix up the martinis, put on the CD, kick back and enjoy lounge music at its finest.

5.0 out of 5 stars I could almost hear the ice clinking in the glasses, March 9, 2002

Sip it slowly. This cd is near perfect. Relax, and turn the lights low. Because you are about to be entertained like no other swingin cat can entertain!! This cd also is the perfect cocktail music. You'll feel the lush surrounding, you'll smell the smoke, and you'll hear the ice clinking in the glasses. Frank may be the ultimate cat, but let me tell you, if you like good music from an era gone by, then this cd by wayne should be in your top 10. Enjoy. I need to refill my martini.

I first saw Wayne Newton I believe on the Ed Sullivan show when he was just getting started. I told my husband then that he would go a long way with his dynamic personality and wonderful voice. He has a way of mingling with the audience that I have never seen anyone beat. I have loved him for years and at the age of 63 am just now getting one of his cds. I have looked for them in many stores and could not find them. I asked my son for one for Christmas and he found it on the web for me. I am so happy. Love you Wayne, saw you in Branson once and would love to see you again. Maybe one day. Would give anything to come to Vegas and see you perform. What a thrill that would be.

Wayne Newton - Wild, Cool, and Swingin'. That sums it all up. What a great album! It's terrific for people like me who enjoy belting out the songs while we drive down the highway. It makes me wish I could go to Vegas and see the real King.

5.0 out of 5 stars Paul Wall, March 27, 2005
This review is from: Ultra-Lounge: Wild, Cool & Swingin' - Artist Series Vol 4 (Audio CD)
Wayne Newtons album was of the heasy pho sheasy. This man tore it up from track to track...I couldnt get way from his phlow. My custom tens were pounding in the back of my street sweeper while I was ridin on my pho pho's. Wayne's voice was deeper than usual, but still, his flow set off the show fo shizzle. Last weekend I busted into the club and Newt was on and I was like "HHHHHHHEEEEEEAAAAYYYYY, Newt in the house". He really got the club bumpin. Wayne wasnt frontin, he wasnt slumpin, he was keepin it real well into the '05.
