Simple but Charming,

I first heard of this band when watching "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly"," in which Emmanuelle Seigner starred and one of her songs, "Don't Kiss Me Goodbye" really added to a beautiful film. There are other really enjoyable songs on this CD too, including "Sing Sing" and "Touch my Shadow" among others. The hallmark seems to be Emmanuelle's voice - she tends to over-enunciate her words. Everything is really precise, which I can tell from another review that some find annoying, but I find charming.
From a musical perspective, there is actually not a lot of talent. It seems like for the lead guitarist, it's a big deal to change chords. But it's great alternative/pop escapism, very catchy, sometime very moving. Worth a shot!

This is actually pretty good. OK she sings with this typicaly "french" accent but the music is really up there quality-wise. Not bad at all and should not be considered as another record by another pretty actress with too much time on her hands.

Ultra Oranga & Emmanuelle are worth keeping an eye on -- but for now, I'm enjoying the pop escapism.

If you just stumbled across this, then it's necessary to say this is a one couple French garage band that plays light jangly pop rock, but who famously and recently added Emmanuelle Seigner as lead singer. Yes, the actress and wife of director (and fugitive from justice) Roman Polanski. Can she sing? Kind of, in English, but she's a little off key at times, and sounds like she just came from a diction class. I have no idea what's she doing here, she could just be taking a 40 year old lark, but the overall effect of the CD isn't that bad, it's mostly quite pleasant in fact. Still, it's pretty much unnecessary, and I'm not sure why anyone would buy it.
