X-Connect 500-Watt Modular Power Supply,

This review is from: Ultra Products ULT31562 X-Connect 500W ATX Power Supply with 80mm Fans (Personal Computers)
Packaged very well. Plenty of connections and cables to accommodate a Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra (single molex) `Mode 0' RAID array, 2 removable hard drives, DVD, and a floppy. I run Athlon processors exclusively so I did not use the 4 pin P4 or the 6 pin aux. connectors.
Power is clean with less than a 2% voltage variance across the board from stand-by to full load. (48 watts in stand-by to 349 watts running Doom3 at full resolution). 100,000 hours MTBF puts this power supply in the same reliability arena as power supplies twice it's price. Exterior appearance is flawless, edges are smooth and square, dust caps fit snuggly, and no scratches or blemishes were found on the acrylic or the metal case. The custom "Ultra" fan guard is a nice touch. The only flaw in the over-all appearance was a screamingly obvious wire tie holding the round UV cathode tube to the bottom fan inside the power supply case. I took my power supply apart and used fan screws to secure the light to the fan thus eliminating the offensive wire ties. Cable installation is a snap with the X-connect supplied cables. Even while using a Raidmax server case, I had a little trouble with clearance when connecting the ATX cable to the power supply due to my use of removable drive racks and Ultras use of `straight-in' connectors. Swapping a drive cartridge and my DVD drive solved the problem easy enough. I would like to see 90-degree connectors made available from Ultra in the near future. The UV light in the power supply is too weak to bring the UV reactive cables to life but adding an extra UV case light creates an excellent effect. Pros: Excellent value Flawless finish Clean appearance Low noise Plentiful connections and cables Cons: Ugly wire ties internally Wire connector clearance could be problematic with smaller cases

Dont get this...,
This review is from: Ultra Products ULT31562 X-Connect 500W ATX Power Supply with 80mm Fans (Personal Computers)
Comments: I got this as a christmas present instead of the Aspire power supply i asked for. I had the Xconnect power supply for not even 24 hours before it popped. Its appearance and design is quite nice, but all the flash in the world doesnt help you when your computer doesnt turn on :-/
Pros: As far as power supplies goes its beautiful, great design with the cables, nice UV light coming from it. Cons: KIA within 24 hours... |
