not waterproof,
By Mary (California) - See all my reviews

These hangers attracted me with their wide width and flocking which makes them perfect for supporting loose knit sweaters. Loose knits on regular hangers tend to slip and when they do stay on they get those funny shoulder nipples from the stiff hanger poking through.
Another nice thing about these hangers is they work with pants. Some of the other flocked hangers don't hold pants so that is nice. The slim design means the closet isn't full from the bulk of hangers so there is more room for clothes to hang freely. The only downside to these and really any other flocked hanger that I have tried is they aren't waterproof. That means you cannot use these hangers with garments that need to air dry. If you do, you'll find that the flocking and/or the adhesive for the flocking dissolves leaving bare hanger underneath. Overall these are great hangers.

Hangers the Best/Cost of $55 not so good,

I have bought quite a few of these hangers and love them, as does the rest of my family. Costco has them for about $15, so the price of $55 for exactly the same product on Amazon left me stunned. Costco now has these hangers packed with 40 of the space saving hangers and 10 suit hangers for about $21. Trying to contact Amazon to see if their published price is actually correct.

If you are a guy with cotton t-shirts and sweaters, then stay away from these. I thought the black would make my wardrobe look better than my white plastic hangers, but it sure is a hassle to get these hangers in a cotton t-shirt. If you have all dress-shirts, it's a LITTLE smoother getting the shirt on and off, but the plastic hangers prevent tangles and wrinkles induced from the hanger grabbing onto the fabric like velvet. Glad I bought it at Costco I can easily return it.
I think this style could be the perfect hanger if each hanger only had a 4-5 inch velvet section on the top of each of the slants and the bottom bar with the rest being smooth black metal/hard plastic. -2 star TOO sticky -1 star PRICE is double COSTCO.

These are thin, but heavy duty. The velveteen cover keeps even thin, strappy tops from slipping off. Brilliant.

these hangers are amazing. [...]. i bought 1 used them up then went back and got 3 more. My closet has never been this organized and with the hangers i have so much room and everything is hanging at the same height. plus when you take something down the hangers don't cling together. I would totally recommend them.

I bought these hangers as an impulse purchase at my local Costco for $19.99, but once I started using them was really glad that I got them.
The box contains 40 regular hangers and 10 hangers for suits on which you can also hang ties. These hangers are a major improvement over the inexpensive metal hangers that dry cleaners use. My dress shirts, polo shirts (I had no problem with these, as another reviewer did), pants and suits fit more nicely in the closet. The suit hangers also work well for things like overcoats and ski jackets. I did not save any space by using these hangers to replace the inexpensive metal hangers. In fact they took up a little more space, but now my clothes are not squeezed together. I plan to buy another couple of boxes for the rest of the family. These look good in the closet, work the way they are supposed to, and the velvet stops pants from slipping off. I recommend them. However, shop for price.

Great Hangers,

These hangers are pretty great for standard-sized hangers. They're thin yet sturdy and the velvet covering seems very secure.
They are slightly wider at the bottom (by about an inch) compared to the normal plastic cheapie hangers you can get at Target-type stores, but they start curving on the top at the same place as the cheapies. As a result, the extra inch width doesn't really provide support through the full shoulder of my husband's dress shirts as I would like. However, that's just a problem with standard-size hangers in general as far as I can tell--that is, if you want to have a hanger support a man's wide-shouldered dress shirt/jacket, you need to cough up the dough for a plus-size hanger (which I do for his good jackets). Still, I started with one set of 50 of these hangers, got them up, liked them, and just ordered 100 more to finish the closet. (The seller I used (Radio City Audio Auction) was even nice enough to offer a short-term warranty on the product in exchange for leaving feedback.)

These hangers looked nice and are pretty much as described, but here is my main issue: The "Velvety Smooth" texture they apply to the hangers makes them very fuzzy and very dusty. This fine black dust would get on anything you hung using these hangers and your hands as well. If I hung a white polo there would be black dust anywhere the polo came in contact with the hanger. In my opinion, the texture adds more friction than needed, specifically on shirts/polos (but that's not the reason for the 1 star). I knocked one hanger with my hand a few times over a white piece of paper and saw a fairly moderate amount of dust accumulation from the texture they apply. I don't know if I got a defective application of "Velvety Smooth" texturing or if they are all like this, but I would caution anyone buying this to at least check them out in the store first. Thanks.

I bought 2 of this set at Costco for $14.99 each. I had seen a few fashion blogs write about how well they protect your clothes, take up less space, are non-slip, etc. I spent the afternoon switching over my side of the closet and was starting to work on my husband's side when he got home. They look so lovely hanging all uniform in the closet but I have to be honest, switching over 75 hangers on my side made me crazy. The same reason they grip so well is the reason they are next to impossible to put into knits, like polos. We hang a lot of knits - nice T's, polos, etc. I had my husband start to help on his side and before he got one done (which turned into a wrestling match with him almost cursing) I started taking all mine off to box back up. I have a hard enough time getting him to hang stuff up. This would make it so much harder. It just wasn't worth it. They don't acutally take up any less space (or negligibly less) than plastic tube hangers and plastic tube hangers slip into clothes so much easier. I would go to wood hangers if we could purse more from our closet. Goodness -I hang some of our stuff at 50% dry - I can't even imagine trying to put this on something wet. What a nightmare. I was willing to try but if my husband wouldn't do it, then it wasn't worth it.

3.5: Holds clothes, but leaves velvet hairs on light-colored cotton and wool,

I just bought a 50-ct box of these at Costco for $16 on 4/9/11. The one Costco is offering now has been packaged into this purple and green box vs the Closet Complete cream and white box that was previously offered. In my opinion this seller is reselling from Costco purchases with a 100% mark-up in price as they just recently changed the product picture to match that offered by Costco.
This is my first time trying a hanger like this, although I have seen them advertised on HSN, BBB, and at TJ Maxx/Home Goods. My closet, with limited exception, is entirely of the white tubular hangers you can get at Target/Walmart for cheap. PROs (1) Keeps "slippery" clothes from falling off hangers. I hung both a silk strap dress and a polyester spaghetti dress on these hangers and neither of them moved even after swinging them back and forth. Prior to these hangers, I had to use the extra hanger strings on the silk dress to keep it on its hanger and had to use a pre-grooved hanger to hang the spaghetti strap (good for the dress, left weird bumps on shirts). (2) Keeps heavy jeans from sliding back and forth on hanger. I hated moving my jeans and pants around because they all would slide on their plastic hangers and shift to one end if I bumped or tilted the hanger. I put the jeans on these hangers and no longer have the shifting issue. Please note that my jeans are heavy denim and not the light, flimsy "trouser" jean material. (3) They really do save you some space in your closet depending on how you hang your clothes. With no clothes on them, I compared 15 velvet hangers pushed together vs. 15 plastic hangers pushed together to see how much difference it made. The velvet hangers save you the amount of space of about 3.5 plastic hangers. That being said this space is only "saved" if you hang everything up-down; if you hang your jeans and pants like I do (fold over the bottom of the hanger) it doesn't save that much space. CONS (1) After reading some of the reviews under the old box style, I was a little leery of the black velvet flocking hairs coming off onto light-colored, DRY clothes as I have a few nice cashmere cardigans in white. Unfortunately those fears are true. The velvet flocking does come off onto light colored clothing, even if it's NOT wet. I rubbed the hanger against a new white cotton t-shirt I own and could definitely see black velvet hairs on it. In addition, I tested by just rubbing my hands back and forth on the hanger and did see some left over hairs on my hand. (2) No wet or damp clothes can be hung on these hangers. These are not colorfast. There is a disclaimer on the side of the box of hangers (although in teeny, tiny print) that they cannot be used on wet or damp clothes. You will have to keep some of your plastic hangers to air dry certain items. OVERALL These are very nice hangers that are worth buying if you have a closet full of clothes that tends to slide off hangers. Personally I feel the space saving "pro" isn't that great; if your closet is that packed then you likely need to purge items. The downsides to these specific hangers are that the flocking does come off on light-colored dry clothes and that you can't use them to air dry wet or damp items. Unfortunately Costco does not sell this box in white (it's only available in black there) so I will have to see if the Huggable Hangers or the Bed Bath Beyond hangers leave velvet hairs on light colored clothes and spend more there instead. |
