5.0 out of 5 stars Very cool new album!
Bananarama's new album fuses techno and electronica with very catchy dance pop. The first US single "Every Shade of Blue" is a great dance record, showing that they still have what it takes to shake up the dance floors like their 1980s heyday. Other potential hits include "Take me to your heart", "I found love" and "System"...

Other potential hits include "Take me to your heart", "I found love" and "System". Although there is no classic like "I heard a Rumor" or "Venus" here, all the songs are great, and they affirm Bananarama's status as one of the best girl groups ever! Move over, All Saints and Spice Girls, because Bananarama's still got what it takes!

As the occasional Bananarama fan (I bought their first two records on vinyl) I have always been slightly amused by the output of these girls and the devotion of some maniacal Bananarama fans - so I picked this up cheap and it is GREAT! GREAT! WOW! "Every Shade Of Blue" is one of their top 3 best singles - a true gem. This is a very interesting recording and quite satisfying all around! Go Girls!

4.0 out of 5 stars Contemporary and mature dance, July 4, 1999

This continues the "Pop Life" vein of strong, contemporary dance music with little resemblance to the pop ditties of 12 years before. Incredibly listenable.

This is indeed one of the GREATEST Bananarama album ever !

I have been a Bana's fan for more than 23 years (checkout the latest DRAMA album too), and ULTRA VELVET is one of my favourite.

Half the album tracks keep your dancing and smiling. Check out the remixes singles "Every Shade Of Blue" and "Take Me To Your Heart", they are FANTASTIC!!

Way to go girls, and looking forward for more great music!

4.0 out of 5 stars Ultra Violet will get you dancing...., December 30, 2000

As I wait patiently for the latest "Bananarama" album to be released, I always fall back on their classics to get me through...."Ultra Violet" is a surpurb example of classic banarama tracks...Club Hit's such as "Every Shade Of Blue","Prove Your Love", "System", and "Time Out" are perfect dance beat tunes....Karen and Sarah are two gals who know how to get the floor dancing...Their music is as hip as they are..."Ultra Violet" has the same energy as "Wow"....another classic to add to your collection.....

5.0 out of 5 stars life after Siobhan (Shuv-on)....., November 11, 2005
This review is from: Ultra Violet (Audio CD)
This is it! the first project recorded by Sarah Dallin & Keren Woodword (a.k.a Bananarama). Since losing bandmates Jaqui O'Sullivan and , original bandmate Siobhan Fahey. The previous 3 released LP's are awsome too, if you can gain access to those as well, they are "WOW!",-Siobhan's last recording w/ the band, "Pop Life"-only Lp recording w/ Jaqui O'Sullivan. And last,"Please Yourself"-(import release only*)and first release as a duo! And then of course there's "Ultra Violet", the first released LP in the states as a duo, Includes an occassional ballad such as: "Maybe The Next Time". But overall a bass-thumping, club-sounding, dance-vibe feel LP. Stand-out tracks include: "Don't Stop Me Now", "Every Shade Of Blue", "System", "Give In To Me", & "I Found Love". Of course there's more but I have to leave you some surprises! You won't regret this purchase or this album, ecspecially those who love Bananarama, club-feel music, those who love to dance & party! And of course ALL will appriciate Bananarama's new sound on this one....there's is life after Siobhan!

They are blessed with beautiful voices. I love this CD!Its great.
When I turn on my cd,I drift off to La La land. And to a life I never had that I wish I had. I have so much fun.Its great.I think this CD is just as good as their 80's cds.I like all the songs on this CD. I absolutely love the songs (these are my favorites)- I found Love,Don't try to stop me,Take me away,Time out,Shades of blue. They are such good songs.I hardly ever have this many favorites on one CD.I even made up some more of my own choreography. But thats a secret that Im going to keep for when I get famous. The music really brings out the feeling in the songs. And I want to know whats up with the people that are trashing their album?,what happened to unconditional love? probably nomatter how bananarama changes, I will still like them cause they have beautiful voices. If you just listen to the soundclips on the computer, the songs might sound boring, but you have to hear the whole songs because theres much more to the songs that a few seconds of a clip. You gotta get this CD. I think you'll like it. I love it. -Molly Smith age 18

5.0 out of 5 stars STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART!!!, June 24, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Ultra Violet (Audio CD)
This is one of the best Techno CD's out there! I was plesantly surprised at how fabuluos the songs are. The vocals are strong ,sexy & breathly . With their preformance of the songs they sing like true DIVAS . It seems like they can do it all, sing ,songwrite and always look so fabulously beautiful and more. This CD is such a must have for not just fans of Bananarama but for ALL lovers and fanatics of Electronic/Dance music especially Techno/House and beat driven raw Techno[TECHNO]. The lyrics really come straight from the heart!

2.0 out of 5 stars a serious misfire, November 26, 2008
This review is from: Ultra Violet (Audio CD)
I LOVE Bananarama - have been a fan for almost 25 years (is that possible???). I have fond memories of driving around L.A. in a white Ford Mustang convertible while on vacation, a young 20-something in the early 80's, listening to "Cruel Summer" and thinking it ("IT" being me being 20-something!!) would never end. Wow, the memories. These ladies have recorded some seriously EXCELLENT car music - WOW, True Confessions, Pop Life...... That's why this disc is such a major let-down. Whatever they had, it's simply not there anymore. They're just going through the motions. A major bummer. There's something to be said for retiring while one is at one's peak...... Overall, a very sad, depressing album.
