I really like this flashlight for use as a "dog pee detector." There's a UV light on the front of our carpet cleaning machine that never really seems to detect the spots - it doesn't show spots sometimes when we KNOW there are some. However, this flashlight IMMEDIATELY showed us exactly where we needed to do more cleaning, and we've finally been able to pinpoint the spots well enough that our house smells good again! The dogs have been better trained for quite awhile but the lingering smells in the carpet were very frustrating, and now we've finally been able to take care of the odor. I was torn between this light and another much more expensive one here, figuring that this one might be 'too cheap,' but chose this one figuring I could always get the other one if need be. I was pleasantly surprised how well this one worked for such an inexpensive price, and also very happy that it only takes one AA battery. It's fairly rugged but I wouldn't want to drop it on hard surfaces much as it's not as 'tough' as something like a Mag-lite, but it's perfect for what I needed.

The product produces lots of black light! The flashlight looks cheap (it IS cheap), but mine does work, and it works well. The battery goes in backwards - and there is no "on/off" switch. Tightening the rear cap turns on the lights. For the money, this flashlight is a great buy! No documentation, but you really do not need any - a flashlight is a flashlight.

I really wished I didn't buy this cause it really showed me just how much my dog was peeing on the floor. I shut all the lights off and checked around all the pee spots really stuck out. was very impressed with this little black lightlight did a very good job finding the stains I was hoping not to find12 UV Ultra Violet 395 nm LED Flashlight 1 AA Black Light, 7203UV395............Be carefull when buying black lights some are blacklight party lights wich will not pick up stains you want to make sure that it is an actuall black light. I really recomend this one for like if you can be with in 3 or 4 feet of what you are trying to find.

This is a very small flashlight, only about 3" long, using 1 AA battery. The small size makes it handy for getting into tight spaces, which is what you are typically up against when looking for a leak in a car air conditioning system. The light isn't as bright as you would get from a 54-LED model, so you might need to blanket your work area to block out ambient light, or use the light after sunset. This would be a good light for night time work, for example hunting scorpions or checking for fluorescent minerals. The small size allows it to easily fit in a shirt pocket. The effective range of the beam seems to be about 8 feet in total darkness. I haven't used it for scorpion hunting, so I can't say how effective it is for that purpose, but it does clearly show pet urine stains in carpeting. I just tried it out in a darkened garage, and it lights up the fluorescent bulbs in the the light fixtures from 15 feet away; it's more powerful than I thought at first.

The construction quality seems average. The barrel and end caps are aluminum. The battery is inserted through the rear end cap, which screws on. The threads are very small, and this being an aluminum piece, the threads are kind of delicate: be very careful to not cross-thread the cap when screwing it back on, I don't think it would take much force to ruin the threads. There is no switch, the power circuit is closed when the cap is screwed down, back off the cap 1/2 turn and the circuit is opened (light goes off). A light touch of lubricant on the threads, like wheel bearing grease, would probably be a good idea, and help prevent premature wear.

After my sinus surgery a number of years ago, my sene of smell does not work well. I always was concerned that my house smelled like a "cat house" after one bout with a neighbor cat getting in my cat door. I was able to find every spot the cat did in seconds. This light and a bottle of high rated cat odor remover is a must for any cat owner. See link below for odor product I used. My daughter, who has a working nose, says it takes ALL traces of odor out of cat spots.

The light has no true on and off switch (just twist tightly the battery case), it also was not able to detect pet urine like another light was. I would not recommend this light to anyone (even at the low price).

worked for 30 sec that was it never got it to work again returning it was a nightmare so i just threw it out

I ordered the urine off, that works great, and they (Amazon) stated that the ultra violet light would help in finding any urine. While my puppy only had 2 accidents, the urine off worked, but the light sucked, did not work, tried new batteries, just poor item. I sent it back, no problem, credited my account.

Update: after doing some research on UV light I have found that this light does work for some things (for example, look at new paper money... you will see things you don't normally see, tonic water... it glows), but it does not work for what I wanted it to. You need to find a light with the proper UV wavelength for your application. I'm still trying to figure out what would work for pet urine, minerals that react to Uv, etc. Therefore, I'm upgrading my rating to a "3". I think suppliers need to categorize their products better for what they can be used for (for example, sterilizing vs setting adhesives, rock hounds, etc.). Educate yourselves before buying!!!
I bought this light for many reasons, but mainly thinking that it would act like a true ultra-violet light (NOT!). My first indication was shining it on old "black light" posters that should have reacted to the light (NOT!). My final test was with a friend, and fellow rock hound, who had quite the collection of minerals, etc. which included several samples that should have also reacted to ultra-violet light. Not a single sample "glowed" as it did with a real ultra-violet light my friend had. Clearly something I would not find useful out in the field, or elsewhere! Don't waste your money!!!

Two reasons to avoid this: Weak light and poor quality.

This item comes with no instructions. Using trial and error I finally figured out to install the one AA battery with the positive end toward the rear of the flashlight. Having used other small flashlights with no on/off switch I knew to just twist the back or front part to make contact and turn it on; however, this flashlight had no definite "on" or "off" position and it was VERY touchy to find a spot where the light would come on and stay on. Also, even though the description says twist the rear of the flashlight (as is usual) I found that I had to twist the FRONT part to get anything to happen.

I agree with another reviewer who said all this light did was flood the area with weak purple light. We even tried it inside our pantry (no windows) to see if that would help but it still was less than useful.

If you really need UV light for any reason then look at some of the ones that use a flourescent tube.
