4.0 out of 5 stars Great song selection with new, relevant hits...
While the CD may not be the best mix-wise, it contains some great tracks... most notably #8 on CD2, Starkillers Diskoteka which I have not been able to find anywhere else at the moment. Peter Rauhofer has a mix of this song out, but I prefer this mix. Fall Out boy's Dance Dance sounds good at this tempo, but the mix is a bit shoddy... you can hear it miss in spots...

3.0 out of 5 stars Comparing this one to last year's Ultra.Weekend
So...I bought this second installment to the annual Ultra.Weekend series because I bought the first one and loved the chill, laid back House beats...Now I'm not sure if Ultra decided to take its listeners to a different kind of weekend, but this sequel is hardly like the first one. It's basically a cd full of remixes of popular songs...I think all the music on this CD...

While the CD may not be the best mix-wise, it contains some great tracks... most notably #8 on CD2, Starkillers Diskoteka which I have not been able to find anywhere else at the moment. Peter Rauhofer has a mix of this song out, but I prefer this mix. Fall Out boy's Dance Dance sounds good at this tempo, but the mix is a bit shoddy... you can hear it miss in spots. Personally I don't care to hear another Coldplay tune as long as I live, but this mix is endurable. Unfortunately one of the lowest spots on this dics is the mix of The Killer's Somebody Told Me.... too much bass, the great guitar work on the original has been replaced with some stale riffs on here... it picks up from there, though, with the notable Oakey remix of Madonna's sorry... this is available on several compilation albums currently out. Kiss the Sky is banging also. That and Stunt's Raindrops are the best cuts on this first disc.

CD 2 is a much better cut for me, with less of pop's shooting stars and some tracks I will want to hear for some time to come. Dancin', Feels Good, Discoteka, Ooh La La.... now these songs are what summer compilations should be made from.

I recommend purchasing this album on the strength of CD 2 alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bring The Club To You!!, June 21, 2006

This is a GREAT collection of recent and top club hits as of now. Also has plenty of mainstream hits, included, that are remixed as well.

A great CD to get you going for a night out on the town, or to work out to, a CD to just jam, alone, to or the PERFECT CD to pop in when you have some people over. Gets the adrenaline going. A nonstop mix of club hit after club hit!

A must have CD for everyone!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pop/House Mix, September 30, 2006
This review is from: Ultra Weekend 2 (Audio CD)
Well...CD1 starts of with 6 Pop/Rock songs remixed into dance songs...they're ok...then the tempo rises with Stunt...and same old same old Cascada's "Everytime We Touch"...CD1 is ok..pretty mainstream i would say...

CD2 is better...with hot House/Disco anthems...highlights would be Olav Basoski's "Waterman"...Morrison "Love of My Life"...my favorite S.O.S. by Filterfunk (what a great song!) ooohh Chanel's "My Life" that is verly growing in me...it's a good song...Editors "Munich" is smooth...with a nice bouncy rythm...the CD ends in Electro style with Ferry Corsten's criticized "Fire" which doesn't bother me at all...and Goldfrapps top hit Ooh La la...but Benassi's mix of it is kinda annyonig...

overall pretty good Compilation!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Music, April 3, 2007

This review is from: Ultra Weekend 2 (Audio CD)
I really like this CD as well as most of the Ultra Records CD's I especially like heady female vocal trance and dance music with lots of drive. However I have exausted the Ultra Records CD series. If there are any CD's that highlight (heady hard driving) trance and or dance music with beautiful female vocals email me with any suggestions at: Carol-Ann26@webtv.net

4.0 out of 5 stars A good blend of commercial hits, filter disco and electro, June 1, 2006
This review is from: Ultra Weekend 2 (Audio CD)
Much better than horrendously boring Ultra Weekend 1, this volume in the series features a good number of hard-to-find mixes on CD.

Disc 1 is predominantly remixes of pop songs segued into radio dance hits. There's unreleased mixes of Kelly Clarkson, Coldplay and Natasha Bedingfield (her older track though), and a hot remix of Fall Out Boys. The only oddity is the clunky remix of the incredibly old Killers hit "Somebody Told Me," which just doesn't flow well in this mix.

Disc 2 begins with filter disco and disco house--a lot of really catchy upbeat dance tracks with a summer feel, including the very pumpin Dancin by Aaron Smith. It segues into electro house with a retro feel, including the remake of Message in a Bottle (which features a great Sting sound-alike), Ferry Corsten's "Fire" which has a Duran Duran vocal sound, and the brilliant Cicada remix of "Munich" by the Editors, which captures the essence of the 80s new wave sound and makes it modern.

A perfect collection for the casual listener looking for a thumping dance mix, Ultra Weekend 2 also includes some fairly long versions of unreleased dance mixes for serious collectors.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT CD, START TO FINISH, June 26, 2006
This review is from: Ultra Weekend 2 (Audio CD)
I'm from the LA area and I can say that I rarely buy albums. But this one was definitely worth my money. The tracklist is spectacular and the music is captivating. I've had it in my car and its basically the only cd I really listen to till the end. Overall, this album was a delightful listening experience. I would recommend it to anyone. 5 stars!

3.0 out of 5 stars Comparing this one to last year's Ultra.Weekend, May 31, 2006

So...I bought this second installment to the annual Ultra.Weekend series because I bought the first one and loved the chill, laid back House beats...Now I'm not sure if Ultra decided to take its listeners to a different kind of weekend, but this sequel is hardly like the first one. It's basically a cd full of remixes of popular songs...I think all the music on this CD shouldn't fall under 'House' but should instead fall under "fast paced, almost annoying techno"...I'm happy for my purchase just because I love Ultra's compiliations and I usually don't really like them at first, but then warm up to them. So my advice is if you're looking for a nice compiliation of Lounge/House music, don't buy this. Instead, buy the first of this series (Ultra.Weekend)...About every song on it is amazing...Alot of Kaskade stuff, and some Moby, and others. I'm hoping Ultra will gear back to the Lounge and House feel they put out in the first one when Ultra. Weekend 3 rolls out next summer.

Peace

3.0 out of 5 stars Cotton Candy Weekend, June 27, 2006

After buying and enjoying most of Ultra Weekend I, I had high hopes that Ultra II would follow along in the same style. At first glance the artists looked promising, but after listening I was rather disappointed.

Although there are a couple of tracks on Disc 1 that are good, for the most part it reminds me of cotton candy - too pop-sweet for me to enjoy for very long. And the beats are hardly original.

Disc 2 is the better of the two because the mixes are more original, the tracks flow better, and the beats are more varied.

CD-1, I could barely tolerate. I personnally haven't heard too many Top 40 Pop songs remixed as trance versions that I have actually liked, anywhere.

CD-2 Much improved. Pretty good track selection if you are into house. I'm more of a trance fan.

Overall, disappointed.

this is a 2 disk cd. the first cd, if full of songs that you may have heard on the radio. kelly clarkson, is one of the singers on the cd. that is the main reason why i purchased the cd. love that remix. the other songs are ok, but the 1 cd is the best of the 2.
