They wouldn't refund the shipping cost of sending me the completely dead product or my shipping to return the dead product back to them.
A watt meter initially showed a constant 12 watts when working properly. Eventually it dropped to about 3 watts consistent with a strand or 2 providing power to seat; I checked the wattage at this point because it barely provided any heat at all.
The design is nice, but it is GUARANTEED to break at the point it connects to seat... unless you never raise the seat.
If a flexible support of the wire was present at the point where wire joins the seat, there would be no minimal flexing at the weak point, and this would be a great long-lasting design. Unfortunately, I didn't realize till too late that I could have improvised a minimal "support" to prevent the complete failure of the wire.
To make matters worse (fatal flaw), the strands of wire WILL break within 1/8" of the seat, leaving absolutely NO wire to re-solder to the seat. It now usable only as a ring toss for a game of horseshoes!
All of that said, I liked this enough that I decided to get another heated seat for the powder room. I purchased the Brondell Breeza WM, and if you have the money to spend on it instead of the Hogue, I would highly recommend it. Go see my review on it (or read all of the other 5-stars on it).
For those who want a heated seat for the base price, but need it to be warmer, I understand that Hogue sells an adapter that will boost the power (and heat). I did not purchase one, so I can't comment on it - but given that the Brondell uses 25 watts, and is much more comfy at low temps, maybe that's an easy solution.
