Ok, but not a primary title on the subject,

while I did find some value to the book, and I did read it completely two differnt times, I also found that many of the ideas presented were in fact very basic (as in you probably already know these) and others were "extreme".
By extreme, I mean that they are written from the perspective of a person who is willing to "create" his own gear from simple items like trash bags. I agree that we could all use a little more "budget friendly items", however I do think often the author forgets everyone perhaps does not share his budget constraints or desires and offering more advice for users that intend to buy the goods might make for a better read. Overall the book is not bad, but I think other titles are more informative, and most of the "secrets" can easily be found in any ultralight backing forum.

This book is great! Good tips, common sense, and experience all blended with an easy to read style. The grammar and spelling are a bit lacking... but that's the English teacher in me talking. The ultralighter in me loved it!

The book is very simple, well written, and has a nice breakdown of short chapters. I read it on a plane from Boston to Rio, and I loved it. There is a lot of stuff that's supposedly well known and a few new things that really shone my mind. It was simple enough and straight to the subject. That's what made me like it. I definitely recommend it.

This is not a book,

This is more like a fleshed out power point or a pamphlet you would get after a half day seminar. The information it has is fine, but not detailed at all. More like a long email from your camping buddy in response to a few questions. Aside from the lack of information, it is not particularly well written. I am not picky about writing in books like this, but this is just not well put together.
I do not want to slam this as it contains some good information, and I get the sense that the author knows what he is talking about, but I just cannot recommend it. Sorry.

a good read with a lot of good ideas. i did find it somewhat repeatative in its 'hints'. i did find that everytime i would read this book - either in part or whole, i would be energized to get back out into the woods. thank you for that!

Best left a secret - avoid at all costs,

This is by far one of the worst books I have ever read. As frustrating as the content is, the typos and other grammatical errors make this about as enjoyable as a dental visit. The "tips" are relatively useless, and in some cases simply pasted in from other parts of the book. The only tip that could be more helpful would be one titled, "how do I get a refund".
