Ultrasonex electric toothbrushes produce 18,000 brush strokes per minute to scrub and foam away decay-causing plaque. In addition, they send 1.6-MHz ultrasonic waves beneath the gum line, where the waves destroy plaque bacteria. Whatever the science, it's a sure thing that the two rechargeable toothbrushes in this set make brushing easier and more effective than with ordinary toothbrushes. Two features stand out: First, the brushes are long (10-1/4 inches) and have slender handles, more like ordinary toothbrushes. Second, the replaceable brush heads consist of the bristle portion only, making them less expensive. (Six extra brush heads are included.) Like most electric toothbrushes, these shut off automatically after a time, encouraging users to brush properly until the shutoff. Most other brushes have two-minute limits, but these run for three minutes. The two power handles are color-coded and store on the countertop in the recharging base. They carry a one-year warranty against defects.
