5.0 out of 5 stars Ultra COOL, June 11, 2005
By
This review is from: Ultraviolet (Audio CD)
Ultraviolet is the 1992 release from All About Eve. This band's older material hailed to the old school goth pop of the late 80's. However, with the release of this effort, they broke barriers and merged elements of heavy guitar-effected riffs and angelic voices into a beautiful array of noise and darkness. Highlights include the opener Phased, Yesterday Goodbye, Some Finer Day and Freeze. Fans of Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, Curve, Cranes or Lush may see the beauty in these wonderfully constructed art-rock gems.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Underrated Album!, May 25, 2010
This review is from: Ultraviolet (Audio CD)
I was into All About Eve back when they first started but lost track of them, unfortunately not realizing that Marty Piper from The Church played on 2 of their albums. That's what happens when you listen to so much music. Anyway, after catching up on many missed LP's by The Church, I soon discovered that he played with them on Touched By Jesus and the underrated Ultraviolet LP. This LP is a masterpiece in my opinion. Although it is not in the same vein as Goth, it is a mixture of swirly dark atmospheric pop landscapes only Marty could help them develop. His contribution on this record helped their sound grow without making them sound too much like The Church. MCA was foolish in dropping them only because it wasn't a commercial success. In the music industry, many LP's can be amazing even without a single hit. Too bad most record companies refuse to acknowledge this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good., June 21, 2006
This review is from: Ultraviolet (Audio CD)
This selection of tracks offers some new angles, but most tracks don't stand out. The worst thing is the recording is very bass light. It's worth owning, bug not particularly memorable.

Try Keepsakes and the new tracks on there first if you are revisiting AAE after a large gap; if you like me have just found out they came back years ago.
