4.0 out of 5 stars Great Purchase!, October 2, 2008
This review is from: Ultraviolet (Audio CD)
Keoki's JDJ album and Oakenfold's JDJ have inspired me to start collecting this series. Not ever hearing this album, I was pleasantly suprised. This CD has great transitions, and it makes for a great workout motivator to listen to at the gym. The only reason for the 4-stars is because I believe the voice overs by Eminem and others was a bit much for me. It kind of made me feel as if I was listening to a weekend radio mix that was recorded on CD to be sold.

3.0 out of 5 stars interesting journey..., February 1, 2003

Gus "Zonik" (Reykjavik, Iceland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ultraviolet (Audio CD)
Well... it really depends on what you are looking after. This album is made by the Wiseguys producer, Touche aka Theo Keating. Whether the compilation hints at the direction his own productions are taking is yet to be seen (though the ones featured here are certainly of the four to the floor variety), but the ethos of his `Ultraviolet' selection is not so much about pillaging 78s from '78 and jamming them full of catchy chorus hooks, but more about working a dancefloor - admittedly of the bedroom variety, to the max. The selection of tracks owes much more to his early acid house influences than the funky hip hop ones that made him his name. Though it kicks off with the quintessential cockney beat-mash of Audio Bully's `Ego War' (a band that is difficult to find CD's from...) - lulling the listener into a false sense of familiarity, it ascends speedily into the realms of full on music in varying shapes and forms! It features Touche tracks, `Square' (an exclusive) and `Gimme My Money', as well as `Tangerine'; his collaboration with Pepe and the, perhaps more familiar sounding, Wiseguys remix of Dr Luke and Liquid Todd's `Stick `Em'. Highlights include Derrick Carter's hypnotic deep house working of `Supernatural' Firefly (King Britt) featuring Ursula Rucker and `Hypnotizing' Positiva's beat skipping upcoming monster track from Kid Crème. At what are technically its most jutting points the mix manages to slot in the twisted acid-techno beats of Tim Wright's `Lunge' and The Incredible Melting Man's `Red Skull' plus the odd vocal interjection from hip hop legend, Pete Rock (put the kettle on and you'll miss `em).
