This review is from: Um Rio (Audio CD)
UM RIO is the 5th album from the most beautiful and least known (in the US) Brazilian guitarist, composer and singer. Featuring acoustic nylon string guitar, piano, bass and drums - with a soprano sax on a couple of tracks - Um Rio is an album that lives up to its flowing name. Even my 17 year old, who doesn't listen to acoustic Brazilian music, can't help but whistle to tracks like A quoi ca sert l'amour. Each of Marcio's albums is different. This one features prominently the piano of Philippe Baden Powell, the son of Brazilian music legend Baden Powell. Milton Nascimento lends his vocal to the gorgeous Cidade Miniatura. Um Rio was selected as one of the albums to celebrate 50 years of Bossa Nova. The only shame is that UM RIO is difficult to find in the US, as are some of Marcio Faraco's other fine recordings. If you like Brazilian acoustic recordings that swing like crazy, you owe it to yourself to listen to Um Rio.
