They keep getting Better and Better and Better...,
By
This review is from: Uma Batida Diferente (Audio CD)
You know how sometimes an artist's debut is a smashing success but the follow-up is disappointing, then maybe the third can be a hair better than the second or a hair worse? This act out of Rio, known for dropping beats on old Brazilian classics on the Ziriguiboom/Crammed label (Six Degrees in the USA) is like the reverse of this. Their debut in 1998 titled "Classics Revisited" was pretty popular and good at the time but suffered with the cliched beats and sounds. Not a timeless recording. Brasilidade followed up in 2001 and was a noticeable improvement and featured mroe of one of the DJ's father's... Roberto Menescal. This one, their third real feature takes off where that one left off and is yet another improvement and features some impressive musicians!
Who are those musicians? For one, Cris Delanno returns and features on at least 3 of the tracks. Roberto Menescal features even more on this one than Brasilidade and his track "Feitinha Pro Poeta" is fantastic. It has that sort of voice-over music xinga that's pure Brazilian. And "Bom Dia Rio", the track that starts the cd out, has a gentle samba beat to it and Cris's breezy singing is perfect for the track. Trio Mocoto feature in the fun "Vai Levando" - a song guaranteed to make you smile. Marcos Valle kicks in on "Queria", a good track with his new style and BossaCucaNova's trademark beats. And another one I have to mention - Orlandivo's on the remake to "Onde Anda Meu Amor" along with Cris Delanno to close the CD. What a legend, and what a great take although I preferred Salome De Bahia's powerful remake with Reminiscence Quartet. I think my favorite song is the remake to "Aguas De Marco" as done by Cris Delanno, who actually sings it in English. It just sounds really, really cute. This is highly recommended to anyone that's a BossaCucaNova fan or a fan of seeing some of the classics given a twist. Maybe the best way I can describe this group is like a fresh piece of fruit that you get from a farmer's stand. The day you get it, that fruit is fresh, crisp & sweet but maybe two days later, it's not the same and will never recapture that freshness. In essence, that's the way BossaCucaNova's albums have gone and I have a feeling this may be the same thanks to the beats and effects. But with artists like Zuco 103 & Celso Fonseca along with a REAl Brazilian ambiance to the music, this will put you in a good mood today. Check it out, and be sure to see the original recordings. This is only 42 minutes long, but BossaCucaNova also produced an album released a few weeks ago titled "Ipanema Lounge" which has some original recordings on it.

WOW, These guys have done it again, and this time even better.
I just cannot imagine what are they going to come up with next time around. In the mean time, let's talk about this Superb Album; there is just so much to entertain yourself with here. 1) If you consider the selection of the songs (great Bossa Nova gems masterfully renewed like: Bonita, Aguas de Marco, Feitinha Pro Poeta and Onde Anda Meu Amor among many others). 2) Their guests: Leo Gandelman, Trio Mocoto, Celso Fonseca, Cris Delanno, three geniuses that have collaborated with Azymuth in the past: Jota Moraes, Sidinho and Laudir de Oliveira, etc. etc.) 3. Their Special guests, Monsters of the original Bossa Nova movement (Roberto Menescal, Marcos Valle and Orlandivo). and most importantly, 4). Their special and amazing participation to a new wave of Bossa Nova/Jazz/Electronica in the world. Take for example songs like "Bonita" and "Feitinha Pro Poeta"; songs that were pretty much forgotten and BossaCucaNova has re-discovered them and polished them superbly. If you like: Brazilian Music, Bossa Nova, Brazilian Jazz, Electronica and a good amount of advanced musical taste, get this CD at once and get ready to be blown away by these hiper-geniuses.

To start this brief review the album is superb. Well done and imaginative. Blending different beats ( Batida ) in a tastefull way. I have heard many takes on the classics on this album and this are well done and have a new look. The sweet Bom dia Rio this album first track transport you rigth to the shores of Copacabana's Luxurious Posto 6. Feitinha pro poeta makes you wonder on that perfect girl in Rio while listening to the tribute to the composer of so many beutiful songs and poems Vinicius de Moraes. Taking all this into consideration this album is a must have to anyone.

Catch tunes (especially cut 4), excellent production, a variety of beats
and vocals all combine to break not only the standard Brazilian music mold, but the dry staid mold of music in general nowadays. Try it, you'll like it!

Our favorite CD is "The Girl from Ipanema" by Stan Getz, and when we heard the female artist on this CD we were "wowed" by her voice. It's perfect music for a garden party or intimate dinner for two.

This album, unlike Bossacucanova's previous album, combines fresh beats with bossanova without detracting from those qualities that makes bossanova so great in the first place. Great guest appearances. A fantastic CD.

Best Brazilian modern bossanova,
This review is from: Uma Batida Diferente (Audio CD)
This is a timeless album with great Brazilian bossanova and even samba beats. A must for any Brazilian music aficionado. I bought this album 6 years ago and, to this day, I still put the track, "Previsao," on repeat.
