Daughter of an eminent Buddhist scholar and a psychotherapist, Uma Thurman left school at 15 to pursue an acting career in New York. In 1990, she married the gifted British actor Gary Oldman, but their marriage was troubled and short lived. On the set of the sci-fi thriller Gattaca, she met actor Ethan Hawke, whom she married in 1998. Back in top form after the birth of her second child and her subsequent separation from Hawke, she gave an electrifying performance as a wronged bride on a rampage of revenge in Quentin Tarantino’s 2003 film Kill Bill. This complete biography looks at Uma Thurman’s rise to fame as well as what lies ahead for this mesmerizing star.

“A worthy addition to the biography genre.” -- Library Journal --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

From the Publisher

Uma Thurman, the statuesque muse of Quentin Tarantino, is at the peak of her career. Daughter of an eminent Buddhist scholar and a psychotherapist, she left school at 15 to pursue an acting career in New York. After a brief stint as a model, she gained recognition in films like Dangerous Liaisons and Henry and June. In 1990, she married the gifted British actor Gary Oldman, but their marriage was troubled and short–lived. In the early 1990s, with her career stalled, she accepted a part in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction—one of the most successful, talked–about films of the decade; it garnered Thurman a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination and boosted her career. On the set of the sci–fi thriller Gattaca, she met actor Ethan Hawke, whom she married in 1998. But her career once again went into decline, with a string of box–office flops. Back in top form after the birth of her second child, and her subsequent separation from Hawke, she gave an electrifying performance as a wronged bride on a rampage of revenge in Quentin Tarantino’s 2003 film Kill Bill. Now, Lucy Ellis and Bryony Sutherland look at Uma Thurman’s rise to fame as well as what lies ahead for this mesmerizing star. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Perspective on One of Uma's Biographys, April 6, 2010

This review is from: Uma Thurman: The Biography (Paperback)
I have followed the career of Uma Thurman for many years because the events of her personal life seem to parallel those of my wonderful 3rd wife. This book has neatly presented the story in a succinct meaningful way. Although there are several areas that might have been explained in more detail, the important facts are revealed. The biography ends before any of the current events that reveal her life as she ages more (thank goodness for cosmetics) and the dubious success of some of her current efforts. This book is a valuable reference in which one can gather a very good idea of the struggle that Uma has had in her personal life and her career. There is no real indication that might warn of her propensity now to control so much of her own existence on the movie set. I do hope that there will be a following biography to more fully explore the life of this talented actress as time goes by.
