Moon Dough is TOO lightweight.

It just crumbles and falls apart in your hands... which leads me back again to the gritty residue EVERYWHERE.

My kids didn't think it was so much fun either.

The concept of this product is spot on. Kudos for that. As for the mess...I am torn here. Kids toys can be messy and being a kid is about getting messy sometimes and we as parents need to tolerate and embrace it to an extent. BUT the extent of this mess is dangerous.

This product leaves a fine powdery silt on the hands and everything else it touches. One of the componenets is considered to be an eye irritant if it gets in the eyes....this is virtually impossible to avoid as the fine silt adheres to everything...clothing, hands, you name it. A young child is NOT going to be able to exercise restraint from touching his or her face during play regardless of parental supervision. Kids are just THAT quick.

Now I am not saying to avoid buying this product HOWEVER, with the warning NOT being printed anywhere on the box, a parent cannot know this prior to purchasing....BAD when it comes to trustworthiness of a company - it is misleading you to believe a product is safe when considering spending money on it at the store.

The insert only has instructions of how to treat IF it gets in the eyes which I do appreciate, however the likelihood of this dough getting in the eyes is quite high in my opinion they should have been a warning about WHEN it gets in the eyes...because it will.

After the product did get in my child's eyes and directions were followed to safely remove the stuff, here eyes still swelled up....not quite shut, but close to it. Who knows, she could be allergic to the colorants as well as being irritated by the other ingredients.

Lastly, getting help from the company was extremely difficult. They basically do NOT want to disclose certain information without making you jump through unreasonable hoops.

Deb, we're sorry to hear Moon Dough found its way into your child's eye. We really hate to hear of anyone having a negative experience with any of our products.

There's no doubt that Moon Dough, like many other things, can get into kid's eyes. While anything that physically gets in the eye can irritate it (dust, dirt, sand, etc.) rest assured that all Moon Dough components have been fully tested to the highest standards. All ingredients are non-toxic and hypoallergenic. Moon Dough meets every global requirement for use as a toy and is sold around the world.

Sorry too that our response was not as quick as you had hoped. We pride ourselves on top-notch customer service at all times. We always strive to provide the most helpful information in the shortest time possible and we provide additional tips and information in our instruction sheets and also on our website at www.moondough.com.

Our Customer Care team will get in touch with you to discuss your experience, and our response, further.

We've been having a lot of fun with the Moon Dough farm and my daughter wanted more so we picked up the Pizza maker. In some ways this one is even better than the farm... more different things to mold, and its a little more forgiving than the farm if you don't pack the dough in firmly enough. Plus what kid doesn't love to make and serve food! We love it!

This is the second time we've bought some moondough. This stuff feels really cool and the play is fun. Originally bought for my 5 year old, but the 11 year old loves the detail possible and incredible nature of this stuff. It's one of those toys that entertains the kids for an hour or so (not just minutes)- especially if they artisticly inclined.

From a sensory perspective, Moon Dough feels really neat. It's squishy, but not like Play-Doh. It's almost like foam-feeling. Reminds me of those green foam blocks florists use to hold flower arrangements. It's weirdly light-weight and not sticky, like play-doh. I thought it would be better because it doesn't stick into clothing. But it's really really messy, and I'm the kind of parent that lets her kids get messy! My first question was "what IS this stuff?!" No ingredients list, other than it doesn't include wheat like Play-Doh, so it's safer for gluten intolerance. But there's a warning on it to be sure to wash your hands after touching it and be sure the kids don't put it in their mouths. So what the heck is in this stuff?! At least Play-Doh is non-toxic! My main beef with it is how it crumbles. It does vacuum up easily, but you know how Play-Doh has that neat ability to stick to itself, so you can just take a ball of it and stomp it all over the table to pick up the pieces? Yeah, Moon Dough doesn't do that. It crumbles into tiny pieces and sometimes reverts to sand-grain size, so with a dog and toddler (in addition to the preschooler I bought this for) I just didn't feel safe having it around. Not worth the hassle. The molds are neat though-- save the molds to use with Play-Doh (make your own!) and ditch the Moon Dough.

We love Moon Dough, especially the fact that it doesn't dry out. That will save us money and waste. They need to make more molds so we can do more with it.

My kids love food play. Making pretend food, playing restaurant with dolls, serving pretend food to mom and dad... they can't get enough. This is a good addition to all that, and they love the way you never know what topping is going to come out until you crank the handle.

As a primary school teacher, I am used to messy play and I embrace it. Having read the five star and one star reviews here, I approached this christmas gift feeling I was well informed and well prepared. I saw that one reviewer talked about working the moon dough to make it more useable - this I did for quite some time so I'm sure the accusation of "faulty user" doesn't apply here (although thanks for that!)

Bottom line is that it's not a dough. It is, as far as I can make out (with no ingredients listing being available) tiny grains of some sort of plastic. It smells foul and chemical, the feel of it put my teeth on edge but I was prepared for both of these issues and wanted to give it a good, fair try (we'd already been gifted it so what the hey!)

With the best will in the world I could see no educational, developmental or even fun benefits to this product at couldn't, more adequately, be gained with other more enjoyable, less unpleasant products. It stank, it felt foul, my - perfectly average - 3 1/2 year old couldn't easily manipulate it into anything other than a crumbly smoosh. This he enjoyed for about 10 mins total before getting bored and silly. I was concerned by warnings to avoid contact with eyes as, immediately, my hands and my son's were coated in a fine, grainy type of dry paste (for want of a better description) which required a thorough scrub to remove. I don't know about anyone else's 2-4 year olds but, even having imprinted the necessity of not touching his face, one of the first things he did was reach up to rub his eyes! As a result I found the overall experience smelly, unpleasant and, frankly, tense!

Not only would I not recommend anyone buys this, but I wouldn't even bother opening it if we were given it as a gift again!
