I used the bowl and brush method, not trusting myself to squeeze evenly. I thought a "demi" color would mean it would fade faster. It didn't. I was skeptical that it would cover evenly, given that I was going over bare root, (30% grey), two different home hair colors, and a salon job. It covered evenly and perfectly. Smelled fine, easy to use, but the most amazing thing of all is the astounding shine. It is the equivalent to my previous salon jobs that were both color and then a Cellophane Laminate over the top. I even went to get a trim and my hairdresser admitted being impressed and gave her approval. And I'm in LA! So friggin' shiny, for the first time I'm not wishing I had highlights, I actually HAVE highlights.
Basically, I was happy with what I got for the price, but it did not cover all of my gray. I have a big patch in the front that's still mostly gray. I recall realizing that I might have missed that spot about two minutes after I applied the color and going back to the bowl and applying to that spot specifically. Seeing the result, I decided it was fine...that I had less gray than before but the remaining gray made the whole effect look for natural. (?) Still, though, it should have covered my gray. The other issue I had was that the next day, my scalp was very itchy. I do have a sensitive scalp, and the product says it should not be used on a sensitive scalp. Anyway, I applied coconut oil, which helped a lot.
