The Bird Cafe bird feeder from Umbra features a cube-shaped architectural form with asymmetrical windows and a sleek, white finish. When filled, seed is visible through the clear plastic windows and flows out of holes in the bottom into the wrap-around tray for birds to perch on and feast. Constructed of durable, molded plastic with a steel cable for hanging, feeder measures 7-inch wide by 7-inch long by 8-inch high. Remove the lid to fill with seed from the top. Seed not included. The Umbra Bird café is a beautiful, aesthetically pleasing bird feeder and a great outdoor addition to my mid-century modern ranch. Unfortunately, what the designer left out was the pure function of feeding the birds. The rim of the base that the birds have to stand on is so narrow and shallow that only the very tiny can even grip it. Once they figure out how to hold on their body position has to remain parallel to the walls because the shelf is also not deep enough. I watch bird after bird try to approach but steered away by these issues. After a few days I switched back to my old wood feeder to be the main in the yard.

I am really pleased with the function and appearance of this feeder. The seeds slide right out and the birds eat them, and it holds a good supply of seed. But there's more, and it's really important: It's an ideal object hanging in the landscape, free of the tiresome bourgeois affectations of traditional feeders. It is a machine for living, heralding the dawn of a new and heroic age of bird feeding!

So cute, but after hanging it, found the birds couldn't perch themselves on the ledge. I gets tons of birds, my cheap feeder is empty after 2 days, but after hanging this one it sat untouched for a few days, saw birds try to get to it, but the design makes it difficult. Ended up setting it on the ground on the patio and they finally were able to eat from it. Wouldn't recommend if you want it hanging.

We have a vernacular, transitional home (craftsman to mid century) and this feeder really fits the look of the house. It is a great feeder also works well with most bird feed. The only problem we have had is with larg sunflower seeds after a rain storm. A quick clean and everything works well again. Thep birds have an easy time perching (jays, robins, chickadees, starlings, cardinals), and empty it out on a weekly basis.

I like the look
