This review is from: The Umbrella Conspiracy (Resident Evil #1) (Mass Market Paperback)
S. D. Perry's Resident Evil, The Umbrella Conspiracy was a great book. If you liked the game, you'll love the book. It handles the action and plot well and describes each persons perspective of the adventure extremely well. It's written from multiple characters points of view with obvious exaggeration to increase the intensity of the horror. Flashbacks occur during the conflicts with the zombies to show the personalities of the characters that are trying to survive. Foreshadowing was another literary device that Perry uses in this novel to keep the readers interested and full of suspense. A negative about this book is that Perry expects the reader to know the environment, mood, and origin of each character in this novel from playing the game so would make the story difficult to follow if you have never played the game. This story follows the adventure of a special task force referred to as S.T.A.R.S. They have been called in to investigate mysterious happenings in an old abandoned mansion, or at least they think it is abandoned. Can they escape this mansion and survive; you'll have to read this book to find out. If you like scary books, you'll be glad you did.

I wasn't sure how well Perry could write this book, seeing how it has two different story lines for Chris and Jill. Despite this Perry has created a masterpiece. She has actually run both storylines in parrallel with each other. I am a big fan of Resident Evil and have got all the games so far and have only just ventured into the books. This is the first one I have read, I got it on a saturday and started reading it the second I got home and could not stop reading it, I finished the whole thing in the one day. This book handels the action and the plot well, it also describes each persons perspective of the adventure very well. If you've played the game and loved it, this book is a must, along with the rest of the series I will be getting very soon.

This review is from: The Umbrella Conspiracy (Resident Evil #1) (Mass Market Paperback)
At first I was suspicious of a novelized version of the Resident Evil video game. The game's story line was a little cheesy in the first place. The price looked like a bargain, so I decided to give it a go. It was the greatest decision I believe I've ever made. The Umbrella Conspiracy tells the tale of the orignal Resident Evil video game. In case your not a fan of the series, Raccoon City has a little, teansy, weansy problem - people go missing for days after venturing into the hills, and when they're found, it isn't a pretty site. Victims....are apparently eaten. Finally, Police Chief Irons decides to send in the cavalry - S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactis and Rescue Squad). But failure seems to surround the entire mission... Minutes after the Bravo team is launched, a distress signal is recieved from their helicopter. Taking matters into his own hands, Albert Wesker, the Alpha team leader, takes his own assembled men into the action. As the story continues on, you slowly begin to learn the personalities/backgrounds of the team members, such as - Jill Valentine - an ex-thief, she is a master of picking locks. Chris Redfield - an excellent marksman that seems very attached to his comrades. Barry Burton - a family man, he prefers a Colt .45 in combat. I thought it was simply amazing that Perry managed to tie the crew in so well. Everything is in the game. Whether you play it before or after reading this book, it will still leave a lasting impression. BUY THIS BOOK!
