5.0 out of 5 stars Earth Journey, November 15, 2011
This review is from: The Umbrella (Hardcover)
A small black dog picks up a red umbrella on a windy day, starting a journey across the world. Seamlessly told in painterly images, not words, this picture book celebrates the beauty found on earth. Children ages 2-5 will delight in telling their own stories from this beautiful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars whimsical, joyful and gorgeous, December 10, 2011

I find wordless books hit or miss. maybe I am not creative enough but some books are too abstract to easily come up with something that keeps my daughter (3.5) following along. This book was easy to play with and create a storyline. The illustrations are fantastic and the expressiveness of the dog are enrapturing. My daughter seemed like she was on the edge of her seat, not to mention thrilled by the many visions of his flight in air. Lovely, lovely book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful wordless story!, July 5, 2011
This review is from: The Umbrella (Hardcover)
We have a rather large library of wordless stories (well over 100 wordless books) and this one is our new favorite. The images really spark the imagination, and the subtle details make it rewarding to read multiple times. For example, I love the very faint bow and arrow on the jungle scene (where the dog is hanging from a jungle vine about to be saved by the pelican). I read this with my son multiple times before noticing that image, and we were both excited when we spotted it because we knew what was coming up on the next scene.

A request to the authors: My son really wants to read the sequel where the cat takes the umbrella for a spin.

Fabulous book!

This book is a fantastic book for teaching reading with out words. The illustrations tell an amazing story that little ones can "read" to themselves or to someone else. What a beautiful book!!!!
