Umbrella Becomes An Amazing Song, Courtesy Boyce Avenue, July 1, 2008
This review is from: Umbrella (MP3 Download)
When did Boyce Avenue become more than a YouTube group, and really become amazing musicians? This song right here. Umbrella was a terribly overrated song by the queen of crap, Rihanna. Then All Time Low turned it into a punk song, and I liked it. Then Boyce Avenue touched it, now I love it!
This song could actually work as an amazing pop song cover a few years down the road. When Boyce Avenue sings it, it seems like an amazingly well-written and genuine love song, instead of one that just seems superficial and artificial to the core. Boyce also does a great job vocally, hitting all the notes just right. And their guitar playing is just so soothing and incredible.
Overall, a song with no mistakes, and does an amazing job blowing away the original song they're covering. Do yourself a big favor and check out Boyce Avenue. They're more than just a Internet phenomenon, more than just a YouTube group, and to call them a MySpace group would be an insult. This isn't any silly amature group capitalizing on modern hits. They're blowing the modern hits away because they get the art of the song better than the "hit-makers" they're covering.
