On my second trip to Japan, Jero was the sensation going on. He was everywhere on Japanese TV, mainly because he is an American whose grandmother was Japanese and taught him how to sing "Enka" (kind of a japanese country music sorta).
Anyway I had heard Enka and I was intrigued, so when I heard Jero singing, I really became a fan. He definetly has some Japanese soul, and the music is a passion of his and in his blood.
Umiyuki is a great song, it just recently won best lyrics here in Japan. And Tozai Nanboku is also a nice one as well.
You dont have to know Japanese to enjoy it but it helps, on the other hand this music can help you learn if your interested. Its known to more accessible for non Japanese because its slower and the words are easier to recite.
All in all, I like R&B, Rap, Soul, Jazz etc. and I am now also an Enka fan. Check it out if your a Japanophile, you may also become a fan too.

I absolutely love this guy and so does my grandmother. We both saw him on NHK and when I saw that it was sold here I was so excited. The cd came faster than I expected but I'm so glad, I can't wait to see my grandmother's face on Christmas Day when she sees this!
