Even More Than I Expected,
By Frank Lunn "Author of 'Carpe Aqualis!- Seize ... (Bloomington, Illinois United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: UnHypnosis: How to Wake Up, Start Over, and Create the Life You're Meant to Live (Paperback)
I actually met Dr. Taubman a few years back at a professional seminar so I jumped at the chance to read his new book with the intriguing title..."Unhypnosis". I literally read the book from cover to cover in one sitting. Hypnosis, as a subject, has about a million different connotations with it from benign to helpful to evil. Certainly, the topic is much broader and not the simplistic stage or show type of hypnosis. He is really discussing the programming we use to instruct our supercomputer brain. Like it or not, we are all dealing with hypnosis touching our lives from the daydreaming we do to the messages we are bombarded with every day.
For me this was a wake up call and an opportunity to learn how to make hypnosis work for me rather than against me. I really appreciate Dr. Taubman's candor and honesty in providing a real guide to living life with purpose and passion rather than just letting the current of issues carry us downstream. Well done!

If you like to think.. or stop thinking.. buy this book,
This review is from: UnHypnosis: How to Wake Up, Start Over, and Create the Life You're Meant to Live (Paperback)
With that word, UNHYPNOSIS in the title, I didn't know what to expect.. there are people who say that hypnosis is evil and something to be scared of.
Fortunately, I didn't stop at the first word. This is NOT a book about hypnosis. What I did see were many references, stories, and explanations that I've NEVER seen in other books or programs. Dr. Taubman tells some of his own story.. especially good is the "I"m Dr. Steve from the USA story".. but mostly sticks to a point by point explanation of how our mind/body/soul works. I've studied everything from self help to scripture, and found several new ways of explaining what I thought might be unexplainable. Perhaps the best "how meditation works in three pages" I've ever seen. The WITNESS and SHARING section of one chapter made me put down the book and exclaim "Yes, that's exactly how it works!" The book starts with a good warning that universal principals should never be in conflict with what you already know. There's no "I'm the Guru, you were wrong" stuff here. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to live an examined life. (Is there any other way?) A goof book for all.

More awareness for inner and outer growth,
By Douglas Eby "Talent Development Resources" (Beverly Hills, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: UnHypnosis: How to Wake Up, Start Over, and Create the Life You're Meant to Live (Paperback)
Acknowledging that turning within but "neglecting outer prosperity and the dance of creativity" will result in discontent, Dr. Taubman provides accessible information for discovering more about our subconscious mind and limiting beliefs to help bring "the two poles of inner growth and outer growth into relationship with each other."
The model of five layers of consciousness (essence, beliefs, goals, manifestation and interaction) is a helpful orientation to personal development. His writing is refreshingly non-academic, but the strategies presented are grounded in a wide range of psychology and spiritual growth material, including concepts of unconscious "scripting" and the growing recognition of meditation as an effective tool. Seeking within to know our essence, and make changes we want in our physical and emotional realities, he notes, requires the participation of our conscious minds, which can be "a strong and persistent adversary" if it is not comfortable with our choices. Positive change is not a matter of obsessing on what is wrong with us, but rather "bringing into awareness and applying compassion and equanimity" to discover and transform our limiting beliefs, and more fully realize our unique talents.

A Life Changer
I had been aware of Dr Steve Taubman and many of the personal growth mentors and gurus whose ideas he has studied, absorbed, and utilized in a comprehensive yet concise method to self awareness and improvement. This book, when properly put to use, can be a life-changer. UnHypnosis: How to Wake Up, Start Over, and Create the Life You're Meant to Live

Unhypnosis: How to Wake Up, Start Over, and Create the Life You're meant to Live is a book that lives into its title. Let's begin with waking up. What does this imply? Well, it implies that we are already asleep or at least living our day to day lives in an extremely drowsy or groggy state. So, how did we get that way? Well we are born in a suggestive state where--with rare exception--we are not able to consciously defend or maintain our true state of being. So the programming begins. And so as the Bible puts it, we see as in a glass dimly. Steve might say that we are looking at the world through a dirty window. Consequently, all of our judgments and perceptions are distorted. This is our current state of hypnosis. We do not see the world as it truly is and so we act and react in accordance with the directives of our subconscious programming. Throughout our lives we see signs that something is off, but we cannot correct it with our conscious mind because our subconscious is undermining all of our attempts which frustrates us and unfortunately strengthens our unconscious resolve to maintain the status quo. So how do we get out of this? Read Steve's book and allow yourself to believe what it says. Why because it will help you to see that we can choose what we believe. Our empowerment or lack thereof comes directly from our beliefs both conscious and unconscious. Imagine how empowering it can be to know for certain that you can choose what you believe. Don't try to understand this. Just choose to believe it. As St. Augustine said of his conversion, "I do not seek to understand so that I may believe. I seek to believe so that I may understand." Knowing you can change your beliefs is simply knowing that you can clean the windows through which you perceive the world. Steve's book will guide you through this. Once you do this your world will change. You will not be able to use the old rules in this world because they were built on illusory perceptions. You must start over. How do you begin this? Read Steve's book. Finally, you can live the life that YOU were meant to live. How do you do that? Steve's book cannot answer that and it should not. Everyone is different. But what the book does offer are stories of his experience in "walking the walk". You cannot live the life that you are meant to live until you know who YOU are. Steve's book can't tell you who we are, but his book can help us say goodbye to who we are not. The rest is up to us. Pleasant journey.
