With very few exceptions I'm not much into "live" albums, no matter the genre. While "Una Noche Juntos: Live" is not the "Frampton Comes Alive" of Tejano music, it was a wonderful showcase of Tejano music in it's early 90s heyday.
This two-disc CD showcases MAZZ's biggest hits from 1988's "Straight From The Heart" to 1991's "Para Nuestra Gente" and even includes a couple of new studio tracks. However, the highlight of the album is the heartbreaking "Por Que Dios Mio?" from the 1986 album "Number 16." My skin gets goose bumps when I hear the audience sing the chorus. The original song is beautiful, but this live track is absolutely breathtaking. Another highlight is the anthemic "Que Me Lleven Canciones," one of the studio tracks, which has since found it's way onto MAZZ's subsequent "Best Of/Greatest Hits" compilations. Overall, "...Live" is a shining diamond of the genre, when Tejano music was sitting on top of the world and could hold its own with other forms of Latin music. Sadly, those days are all but gone, with today's Tejano either a shell of what it once once or an embrace of Mexican Norteno music. Still, back in "the day," when one talked about Tejano music, El Supergrupo MAZZ, was usually the first band mentioned. Listen to this or any other late 80s/early 90s MAZZ CD and you'll understand why.

I bought this CD today because it was the music I listened to growing up. My dad used to play Mazz's music all the time and it's something I will always treasure. Good music! Highly recommend.
