Carr's Kodaly is disappointing,
By Russ (Omaha, NE United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Unaccompanied Cello (Audio CD)
Despite his obvious competence, Carr falls flat on his endpin with the Kodaly. It is occasionally badly intoned and mostly lackluster. The definitive presentations of Kodaly's Opus 8 still remain those by Janos Starker. This is NOT merely "my humble opinion". Kodaly himself, not long before his death in 1967, heard Starker perform the sonata and pronounced it, with the exception of one ritard, "the Bible" on how the work should be performed.

I love this CD,

This review is from: Unaccompanied Cello (Audio CD)
I bought this CD when the Golub, Kaplan, Carr Trio played in San Antonio and have listened to it many times. The music and performance are captivating and make me drop whatever I am doing to stop and give all of my attention to the music. Colin Carr's playing sounds impecable, and I find it hard to believe anyone can play so magically and movingly. I wish he would record more of the unaccompanied cello works by the same composers. I don't know how much credit should go to the technical staff at GM Recordings or if it should all go to Mr. Carr. I offer him my personal thanks for much pleasure.
