Orson Scott Card is the bestselling author best known for the classic Ender's Game, Ender's Shadow and other novels in the Ender universe. Most recently, he was awarded the 2008 Margaret A. Edwards Award for lifetime achievement in Young Adult literature, from the American Library Association. Card has written sixty-one books, assorted plays, comics, and essays and newspaper columns. I read this wonderful story nearly 20 years ago in an issue of Omni magazine. (Is it still around?...) Card uses a minimum of description and narrative to capture the full spectrum of joy, loss and the creative spirit. When I was done I felt I could almost hear the "sugar-songs" of the protaganist. To paraphrase Einstein, the worst fate for someone who rebels against authority is to become one. Hope you like this story as well as I did.
