5.0 out of 5 stars Sincerely Spiritual, November 20, 2004
By
This review is from: The Unbelievable Truth (Hardcover)
Gordon Smith is a rara avis indeed. He very charmingly and directly tells of the unfolding of his mediumistic and psychic gifts while dropping in a surprising amount of what one might term "light" supporting scholarship. It is his sincerity that shines through and an earnest desire, one begins to feel, to help bring an understanding of the hidden realms of spirit to others by telling the tale of his own personal journey in an open, direct, and unaffected tone. The result is a powerful, unapologetic exposition of the truth as he sees it from both experience and contemplation. What makes the book so valuable in my eyes is that this is not another of the "isn't it amazing to channel the spirit world," variety but rather an account that moves far beyond the novelty factor. It is a personal tale of the search for the larger meanings of all existence, here or elsewhere, culminating with the wonder of consciousness and the sanctity of life.

This is a wonderful account of personal gifts turning deep insights into an honest and helpful wisdom, shared. From Victorian spiritualism to Tibetan Buddhist views of the unity of all consciousness is quite a leap in this category, but Mr. Smith takes us the distance. Just as this book will become a classic, Gordon Smith's next book will be a masterpiece -- one can sense it.

Very highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overcome Your Fears and Doubts, January 8, 2005
This review is from: The Unbelievable Truth (Hardcover)
The Unbelievable Truth by Gordon Smith is a very personal and informative exploration of life after death by a man who could see spirits of the departed very early in life. Gordon Smith is a well-known medium from England who has denied, questioned, tried to hide, and then developed his abilities to communicate with the spirits of the dead. Now he devotes his time to helping people who are in great distress of grief have consolation or directions from the Other Side. His powers and abilities have been tested in many different ways scientifically and he has been verified each time as being authentic and not a fraud. He cannot explain how or why he has this ability, but through the deep questions he has asked through the decades he has gleaned much valuable information which is comforting and enlightening and dispells the fears we have about the after world. The documented accounts in this book are fascinating and will give you pause to question your own fears and perhaps to look more deeply at your own denied abilities. A very interesting read that helps us learn about our consciousness, to overcome fears and doubts, and to accept what once seemed beyond belief, knowing that it just might be everyday normal.

3.0 out of 5 stars Believable, August 2, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Unbelievable Truth (Hardcover)
An intriguing, if a bit surface-level, first-person description of what it's like to be a medium, with a casual but articulate voice sprinkled with comic relief asides. The accounts are interesting, but not any moreso than any decent true paranormal account book. I guess from an author who's described on the cover as being "hailed as Britain's most accurate medium," I expected something a bit more... well... unbelievable. As I was reading this, I kept thinking of the Onion story, "The Thinkable Happens to Local Man": "..."'I can believe what I just saw,' one witness told reporters. 'In all my years, I can honestly say I've seen many things like that. Who wouldn't have thought that this, or something very much like it, could happen?'"

Still, this is a worthwhile addition to the collection of any psychic phenomena enthusiast, and would be a fun and fascinating read for any newcomer to the subject.
