Darlene Arden offers a charming and sometimes hilarious guide to products and services for dog-shopaholics. Useful and fun!

I have always been a huge fan of Darlene Arden. She's smart, articulate and absolutely passionate about dogs -- she may just be dog's best friend. I have all three of her books and each one contains valuable and timely information on some aspect of the relationship between humans and dogs.

I especially enjoyed this book and find myself going back to it time and time again. It is a detailed compilation of neat stuff you can do WITH your dog, as well as great things to buy FOR your dog. Sure, you could spend weeks on the Internet and find a lot of this information yourself, but Darlene has done all of us a favor by compiling everything in this handy, inexpensive book. Most of the items listed were totally unfamiliar to me, but I will be checking out many in the weeks to come.

Thank you, Darlene for all that you do on behalf of animals. I intend to give several copies to friends this Christmas.

This book is unlike any other dog books I have (and I've got LOTS :-). It's full of all these amazing places to go, things to buy, things to do - that are dog-related. Although it's U.S.-based, websites for the companies make it a handy book even for non U.S. people like me, and there are international companies listed too. There are some really interesting things listed, and it's written in a very readable format. I read the whole book the evening it came, and it's very entertaining as well as useful. Anyone who is a dog-person would love this.

What a great book, not my normal type of read, but so entertaining and informative. The author has an impressive writing style, concise, humorous and enticing.

This book is delightfully packed with useful information for dog lovers. You'll have fun while you're gleaning information, too, as the book is very entertaining. I had no idea there were so many businesses catering to the needs of dogs and their owners. Some of them are in fact, literally, catering, as at least one canine catererer is listed, along with numerous formulators and purveyors of doggie treats. The author covers everything: shopping, health, food, training, day care, recreation, publications, art, and some offbeat and entertaining items such as museums, expos and fairs. Where can you find someone to paint your dog's portrait? How, and where, can you travel with your dog in such a way that both of you will have a good trip? You'll find the answers, and many more, here. The table of contents is divided logically into categories that cover every aspect of canine life, with a comprehensive index at the back of the book. The author prefaces each chapter with her own comments and, in some cases, heads the chapters with her expert observations and advice. Many of the listed businesses carry products for cats, too, so even if you are a dogless cat person, you'll enjoy this book!

Absolutely the very best book of it's kind, entertaining, loads of great information that is written in an easy-to-understand layout.
Darlene Arden is my favorite pet author and I have enjoyed all three of her books because her writing style is not only informative but so entertaining as well. I use this book all the time because I have 4 dogs, 2 big and 2 little and Ms. Arden covers it all! I am a shopaholic when it comes to my dogs and Ms. Arden has opened up a much bigger dog world for me, things and places I never knew existed! I even think that a person who hasn't adopted a pet would love this book! Thank you so much, Darlene Arden, this is another winner!

This book is a must-have for people who enjoy pampering their pets. It has resources for shopping, traveling, reading, training, health and just plain fun for you and your dog to enjoy. You will find everything from the practical to the ridiculous. Buy one for everyone dog owner you know! Only fault - no photos!

This book has lists and lists of useful stuff, but it is so far from being a shopping list book. Each category of stuff includes really excellent consumer information on what makes an item good or bad, how to choose wisely, and what you can get in all price ranges that your dog will love. There are even some cool cat things for those of us with both kinds of pets.

Darlene Arden's book is a great resource for those of us who look at our dogs as a true part of the family. The title sounds like a "put-on" but it certainly isn't. The book can guide involved dog owners to much they might otherwise miss or might not even have heard of. Such serious matters as vet care and insurance, training and travel are included along with a great deal of "cute stuff" like fancy dog clothing, handmade treats, doggie jewelry, whimsical toys and that sort of thing. Some of the "Deals and Adventures" may sound a little frivolous to a few people, but the true dog lover will enjoy reading about them anyway.

I ordered this book with great expectations but found it disappointing. I think it's hard to publish a book like this because it would need constant updating. I thought someof the "great" deals were outdated and the "great" adventures not as great as hyped. You can find better, more current information just by doing some searches on the web. This book might be a good intro for beginner dog owners who don't have a clue as to what kind of activities are possible but the knowledgeable dog owner who is really into their dogs would already know all the stuff in this book. Save your money and get another book.
