I agree with some of the reviewers who wondered where the nutrition info is. Well I can tell you, it's in the new Betty Crocker gluten free cookbook. Betty Crocker Gluten-Free Cooking This is still a five star and if you are torn between this and the Betty Crocker cookbook, get this one first as Anne's recipes have the edge. The Betty Crocker one isn't quite as good but it has the nutrient breakdown. Betty Hagman's latest books also all contain nutrient info too. That's a trend I think all the gluten free cookbooks need to get on board with.

That is a MINOR quibble. This new book by Anne is 5 star with or without nutrient info. Here is why I think that.

Anne's legendary way with a mix means that her recipes have a home made twist of flavour, and they are goof proof. For example Anne's Buttermilk Blueberry Pancakes rely on Bisquick mix as do Betty Crocker's. Where they differ is that Anne explains 3 variations using buttermilk, yogurt and sour cream, plus advice on doing a dairy free version. She tells you what the flavour and texture variations will be. Betty Crocker gives one standardized recipe, but includes the nutrient info which is distorted by including the syrup but not the pat of butter on the pancakes. Since some of the recipes in each book cover the same ground, you could easily get both, try out which version of say pancakes or pumpkin spice bread or blueberry muffins that you want, and approximate the nutrient info from the Betty Crocker recipe version. I just plain like Anne's versions of the recipes and she is very good to include a dairy free version for most with a few exceptions like quiche where the non dairy equivalents change the recipe too much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Receipes! December 3, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I was entertaining a gluten free guest over Thanksgiving and this cookbook was perfect. Not only was my guest gluten free, but also dairy free and at the end of each receipe there was the substitution to make the receipe dairy free. So, I got a two for one cookbook! I actually made the chex mix receipe, potatoe soup, banana bread, three different muffin receipes and the flourless chocolate cake. All of them were easy to do make and tasted even better. They were served to all and no one even questioned the ingredients and they ate everything. For me, this cookbook was the answer to my entertaining prayers.

This was recommended by a gluten sensitive friend who is a great help to me in finding recipes for my newly diagnosed disorder. Recipes I've tried are good and the extra notes are helpful for preparation and even purchase of the most tasty brand of gluten free ingredients.

4.0 out of 5 stars Most recipes call for gluten-free biscuit mix April 22, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The recipes don't call for a long list of ingredients, but potential purchasers might like to know that most of the recipes call for gluten-free Bisquick.

3.0 out of 5 stars Betty Crocker cooks GF-from a mix February 25, 2013
I've been cooking GF for my daughter for 7 years now, and was looking for a cookbook that would show me how to make my own pie crust, pizza crust, biscuit dough, etc. from scratch. Using GF Bisquick or ready made mixes is easy for most of us, but they are very expensive to use routinely. Byrn refers to using these mixes as "homemade," presumably b/c you have to add a few ingredients and bake them yourself. It is fine to suggest ready made dry mixes, but she should indicate how to make those yourself from other GF flours like sorghum, brown rice, tapioca, etc.

If you have access to and are able to afford the dry mixes, her recipes look and taste good, and are quick to prepare. Certainly saving time, has it's advantages. The book is nicely illustrated too.

For those who don't mind keeping several different types of GF flour on hand, I recommend Gluten-Free Makeovers: Over 175 Recipes--from Family Favorites to Gourmet Goodies--Made Deliciously Wheat-Free Deliciously G-Free: Food So Flavorful They'll Never Believe It's Gluten-Free. They'll even show you how to make your own ravioli w/o a pasta maker! How cool is that!?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Gluten-Free Recipes February 7, 2013
By K Murph
I bought this book for my daughter who has Celiac Disease. We have tried most of the recipes in this book and they were delicious, so easy, full of flavor and no grainy texture. The Gingerbread Cupcakes are so moist, you would swear they were made with regular wheat flour. My daughter loves this book because she is just learning to cook gluten free and didn't like having to have 5 different flours and alot of ingredients for one recipe. The author makes it very convenient with using the prepared box mixes. I have tried many recipes from other cookbooks and have been disappointed with the final product. Thank you, Thank you Anne Byrn for finally putting together gluten free recipes that are easy and very close to the real thing. This is a MUST cookbook for anyone with a Gluten Free allergy.
