Book Description

Dean Whitley is no stranger to murder. In the small town of Hartsville, he isn’t just another one of the guys. He is a survivor of the killing spree that left his mother dead and his father heartbroken. Determined to avoid the same lonely fate, he refuses to pursue the one woman he knows he could fall for.

Payten Bailey isn’t looking for a happily ever after ending. Busy running her parents’ diner, she isn’t looking for a relationship at all in spite of her friends’ insistent prodding.

An unexpected, and perhaps unavoidable, kiss puts Dean and Payten on a collision course toward disaster. As things heat up between the two, something far deadlier than the temperature is rising. Dean’s worst fears come to life when Payten becomes the target for a killer. Plagued by nightmares of his mother’s murder, Dean is determined to protect Payten at any cost.

The small town police department struggles to find the man behind the attacks. The longer it takes to find answers, the more time a killer has to plan his final revenge.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent First Book! July 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Nikkie Locke's first book, Unbound is a must read! It acts as an excellent mix of suspense, romance, and humor. Although I usually do not read this genre, I would say it is the best one I have read. I wish I could add more without spoiling the book, but let's just say that Nikkie Locke has a way with descriptions and developing characters to keep you in the story!

4.0 out of 5 stars Delicious Tension! July 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
If you love romantic suspense, this is sure to please. 'Unbound' is a fast-paced story with twists and turns around every corner. The setting is perfect...a town so small that there's almost nowhere to hide. The love story unfolds amidst the tension and the hero and heroine's passion for each other builds right along with the growing danger in their town. I enjoyed this read and will be on the lookout for more from Nikkie Locke.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Dose of Sweet Romance October 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Unbound is right up my alley, a book I enjoyed settling in with for my dose of sweet romance and unpredictable twists and turns in the plot. Payten is one of those great friends you just want to set up on a date with the best looking, nicest guy in town while Dean is the man everyone relies on, the guy next door who's not only hot, but honorable and protective. Sparks fly and the sexual tension is strong as the two are placed in close proximity to each other while Hartsville's law enforcement goes looking for the person responsible for the threats against Payten. If you're looking for a heart-warming story guaranteed to make you smile, and say, "No way, that was the bad guy?" then I recommend Ms. Locke's Unbound.

4.0 out of 5 stars Small town setting- Big town suspense July 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I think the thing I loved most about Ms. Locke's debut is the small town setting. Living in a place where everyone knows everything about you makes it hard to bring in a believable bad guy, but Ms. Locke did just that. Looking forward to future books. I enjoyed this story very much. The chemistry was good, the bad guy was creepy, and the twist was unexpected and delicious. I would certainly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't miss this one March 29, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Instantly I was pulled into this story. The internal dialog of the characters was not only revealing, but helped the reader to connect to the characters on a deeper level. The antagonist's voice was so clear and so separate from the main characters that it seemed he/she actually wrote it instead of the author. This added depth and suspense until I had to stay up late to find out who did it. Bravo.

The romance between Payten and Dean was captivating and sweet. It even brought back memories of my relationship. These characters just fit together. The chemistry between them leaps off the page without the writer having to tell you. You'll cheer them on both in developing their relationship and fighting their adversary.

PS - Holy crap, I just saw in the other reviews that this story is the author's first. That's amazing. Well written debut romance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Suspense and Romance June 29, 2013
I won this book in a giveaway and enjoyed it so much I'm sorry I waited so long to read it. Nikkie Locke has created a believable small town and peopled it with interesting characters. The hero, Dean Whitely, survived a killing spree that took his mother's life and left his father grieving for the rest of his life. He's convinced there's a curse on the men in his family so he wants to avoid getting involved with any woman. Payten Bailey is too busy running her parent's diner to have the time for a man. So, of course, they wind up together. But someone is after Dean--or is it Payten--to do serious harm to him. Or her. As they get closer, so does the bad guy. You'll have to read the book to see whether romance or the bad guy wins!

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit different but a good story May 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Small town and everyone knows everything! Somebody is trying to kill this girl, and everyone is trying to help her ! A strong heroine who finally shows an interest in the town hunk. But they both have baggage. Refreshing respect for each other with no dominance issues! I'm getting tired of these heroines who are submissive to bully type men!

Very unexpected for being in the "free" category. I loved every minute of it. I found myself at the end wishing there was a sequel.

I usually like my romance a bit spicier, but I thought this one was kind of sweet. However, the "quickness" of it didn't make sense. Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible- not even worth 99 cents
I couldn't even make it more than a few pages into this book....and I usually don't give up to easily. Poorly written, not at all interesting. A waste of a buck...
