Book Description

May 1, 2006
Ken Fink was exactly the man he was raised to be. A successful lawyer. A pillar of the community. A good family man. Responsible for an unrelenting list of clients, crises and obligations. Like so many other men, he felt overwhelmed and trapped but believed his male role left him no choice.

When crisis shatters the box of his buttoned-up life, he sets out on a wild and often wrenching quest for something he names, simply, as more. Uncanny synchronicities take him from a life-changing blindfolded kiss to an ashram detox, from miracle healings to multi-dimensional reality, from an obsessive mind to an accessible heart - and, ultimately, to what it takes to be a complete man.

Ken Fink brings an eye for the magical, an ear for the outrageous, a flair for storytelling, and an inspiring vision of male possibility to this candid, gutsy memoir.

From the Publisher

The following review was published in Natural Awakenings Magazine, Northeast Florida Edition, June 2006 Ken Fink in his book, UNBUTTONED: Who says men can’t change?, has created a great entry point for a fellow soul in need of change. Fink serves as tour guide for an amazing and wild ride through dozens of healing modalities and fortuitous life-changing encounters. As he becomes increasingly open to the inexplicable occurrences in this universe the reader catches a sure glimpse into the possibilities available for his own existence. Fink takes the reader through the fantastic labyrinth he traveled in his effort to become well. This well-placed lawyer’s journey began the day he woke up and couldn’t get out of bed. Unlike some transformational tales, Fink’s account is consistently wry and potent. It is thrilling to hear the male voice extolling personal transformation. Within 268 pages Fink undergoes an entire deconstruction of the life he diligently spent decades building. As the pages turn the once virile, competitive, highly achieving father of three succumbs to an unidentified illness, moves out of the home of his dreams via divorce and breaks beyond the life his dear parents had envisioned, and tacitly sanctioned, for him. Each event portrays the terror a soul experiences at the crossroads, but contains a brilliant, humorous luminosity that is Fink’s trademark.

For the reader in a rush, or easily distracted- perhaps by his own brilliant legal career, UNBUTTONED is a perfect fit. Fink has created a series of powerful, stand-alone chapters that can raise the reader’s eyebrow or cause one to laugh out loud. Reviewed by Ronda Steinke-McDonald

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book, May 15, 2006
This review is from: Unbuttoned: Who Says Men Can't Change? (Paperback)
I loved UNBUTTONED. It is a true story about a person who woke up to the fact that his life was missing something and decided to risk the reliable in pursuit of life's magical possibilities. During my ten years in the corporate world, it seemed to me there were a lot of people who were letting their lives follow thoughtless paths. It was so refreshing to read about someone - especially a man -- who searched for and found more meaning.

Unbuttoned is filled with humorous and honest accounts of things that happened during a period in Ken Fink's life when he went from being who he thought he should be to discovering what he could be. He describes in detail his feelings about events that he went through that I could relate to, such as his mother's illness and death, and events that were unfamiliar to me, such as his interactions with yogis.

Besides being easy to read and funny, I found the book educational. It provided insight into why alternative medicine continues to be embraced by more and more people. Reading about how things fell into place as Ken went through the trials and joys of life demonstrated to me the benefits of following your intuition and listening to your heart.

This review is from: Unbuttoned: Who Says Men Can't Change? (Paperback)
A wonderful reading for men who have considered that their lives may have more meaning than they can experience only through hard work and the satisfaction of work related success. A great portrayal of one man's journey from the left brain to the right to find a place of balance, understanding and insight. Wonderful that he has found a way to share these insights in such an instructive and enjoyable way.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unbuttoned Who says men can't change, July 6, 2008
This review is from: Unbuttoned: Who Says Men Can't Change? (Paperback)
An interesting read to walk through a conventional attorneys alternatve approach to healing when the medical world could not offer him the help he needed. The reader sees how his illness served him to open his consciousness as he healed his body and opened his mind.
