As I am giving a lecture soon at the New Britain Museum of American art on John Singer Sargent as a mentor, that is what can an artist learn from him and his life, I found that it not easy to find personal information about Mr Singer, his motives, how he developed his techniques, why he painted certain subjects the way he did. he left much to mystery. On the other hand he seems to have been a shrewd business man for an artist. Uncanny Spectacle was able to offer me much needed insights into john Singer Sargent as a painter, his life, and his purpose. I can recommend this book for anyone doing research on John Singer Sargent - I am author of Creative Painting for the Young Artist.
