Growing up with the X-Men comics since the 80's, the idea of having a terrific comic book and a Nintendo game together would be like heaven. But no thanks to LJN who made some medicore, some enjoyable and some downright terrible games they had to get the rights to make an X-Men game and it was unleashed in december of 1989, it turned out to be a major disaster. What's really bad about this abortion is that the graphics are truly messy and the character designs which looked good in the select menus are recycled characters that don't even resemble who they are in a way as X-midgets. Take for instance Nightcrawler in this game looks the same as Colossus as much as Wolverine looks like Cyclops and Storm. In this game you have 6 members like Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Colossus, IceMan and NightCrawler as you have to go through blocky looking mazes as you blast or nudge many enemies. These enemies include centipedes, knights, killer springs and all sorts of weird as hell crap. The sound-effects is clearly unacceptable as it irrates and the graphics shown is very disasterous, but you have to look under the LJN logo on the cartridge to unlock the code to meet Magneto who looks like a red blob stain. The game is basically a birds-eye or Gaunlet style kind of game yet it's not very good. I couldn't believe i rented this game as a kid back in 1990 for my NES and it truly blows, but after finding this game for cheap at one of the flea markets in Albuquerque it truly sucks now. If your an X-Men fan like me, i suggest to stay far away as far as you can.

The cover of the box looks cool and its the X-Men! You get to choose from the best 6 characters of the X-Men universe (at the time, was 1989). Once you pop that sucker in and press start, I gurantee you that you will cry! Graphics are awful and the screen hurt my eyes! I won't even talk about the insane and unfair difficulty! I played it once and I threw the control after dying in 5 minutes!! Cyclops' Optic Blasts look like short red bars, Iceman's ice beams looks like white marbles, and Storms lightning looks like yellow balls...OMG!! As for Wolverine, Colossus, and Nightcrawler, you can't tell if you're attacking an enemy not to mention you can'nt even tell if you took a hit (shows how bad the graphics are)! What kind of contraints were the developers under when making this game!? Sound effects and music score are gruesome (sound like old Coleco Vision Games)! I heard you have to get a code in order to reach Magneto's level! I'm glad I played this online instead of spending 50 bucks on it back in the day!
A game based on Marvel Comic characters is suppose to be cool, but leave it to LJN once again to make these games less than poor quality and it doesn't stop at X-Men (its the worst NES game ever)! All Spiderman games for Gameboy suck (including Arcade's Revenge), Spiderman: Return Of The Sinister Six really sucks, Arcade's Revenge for all consoles suck and are unfairly difficult, Punisher sucks, Silver Surfer sucks (although not made by LJN), Wolverine sucks, and Wolverine's Adamatium Rage sucks too! My advice is to stay away from this game, even if you can get it for a quarter! If you own it, throw it away!!!!
