A fabulous, quick-read collection of inspiring stories about one of the most heart-breaking types of animal cruelty. Heartbreaking because it is perfectly legal in most places: that is, keeping a dog on a chain or in a cage 24/7, often for year after year. Well, I happen to be the Mother of Molly, who is one of the featured dogs in the book. Molly spent 11 years of her life, tied to an Igloo dog house in someone's back yard, 24 hours a day , in the rain,snow, heat,thunder and lightening. Molly is a beautiful labrador retriever with a heart of gold. She was rescued from her lonely existence by the good people of Dogs Deserve Better. Molly now belongs to our family where she is loved and honored on a daily basis. Molly's story is actually one of the lesser of the tragic stories.. Other dogs have sadder stories but they all were given the most important opportunity we all desire...a chance to be loved and respected. Dogs Deserve Better is a wonderful organization and these stories will make you cry, smile, and feel inspired to help those of us who can not speak for themselves. Beautiful read...

These stories of formally chained dogs and the heroes that rescue them is inspiring and life changing. The "unchainable" spirits of these dogs and the acts of compassion of those that have saved them, gave me new energy to continue my work in animal advocacy and free as many of these dogs as I can!

Unchain My Heart is a quick read with the most amazing stories of chained backyard dogs and the angels who rescued them. Dogs Deserve Better is an organization that has helped rescue many dogs that are chained 24/7 and are considered pets by their owners but are far from it since they are kept outside, chained to insufficient housing, and sometimes left without food or water. I couldn't put this book down once I started reading. These stories had me laughing, crying, and brought the reality of animal cruelty to the foremost of my mind. We adopted Sweet Pea from Dogs Deserve Better and her story is included in Unchain My Heart. She is the sweetest dog and very grateful for being rescued. For those who have not purchased this book, you need to because these are amazing stories of dogs that survived the summer heat, harsh and cold winters, insufficient or no shelter, and no human contact. And thanks to their human angels who cared enough to fight for them, they have been given a second chance at love, hope, and a warm bed. This book is inspirational and Dogs Deserve Better has changed our lives and thanks to them, our son has become an advocate for dogs and helping to spread the word about the cruelty of chaining.

This needs to be on your must read list and makes a great gift to an animal welfare advocate. Heartwarming and compassion in action.
