The Perfect Adventurer's Guide, February 4, 2009
This review is from: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Signature Series Guide (Paperback)
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is, for the most part, a very straightforward game. You might not need a guide to complete it, but if you find yourself lost, you do have a good guide written by BradyGAMES. It has what it needs and provides some good artwork as well.
There isn't a lot when it comes to the introduction. There's a note from Naughty Dog before it jumps into the cast of characters and then all the basics of the game. There's nothing too bad about it, but you probably won't have to worry so much about it. All this stuff is explained in the game, but there are a few tips that the game might not explain right away that you can find here.
The walkthrough is very detailed. The walkthrough is divided into the same chapters as the game itself. With each chapter beginning with a list of objectives to fulfill in a step by step fashion. The more confusing steps are explained in greater detail with a few tips called out as well. There are also plenty of maps that pinpoint out the hidden treasures as well as ammunition if you need it. It can be very handy to find the treasures located throughout the game. There are also huge, detailed screenshots throughout the walkthrough.
If there was anything about the walkthrough that seems strange, it would be that it is very overproduced. It looks good, it has a lot of artwork, but there's not much in the way of text and guidance. There doesn't have to be, as the guide is excellent, but there is definitely much more artwork here than actual text.
Afterwards there's a list of all the treasures and reward medals and what they can be used for. It's really nice as well. But the real treat is reading the interviews with Naughty Dog staff workers. It gives real insight into the game, some even revealing secrets. It helps those interested in Uncharted learn more. The end result is a guide that isn't just there to help you through the game, but one to help you really learn about Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.
There's a lot of concept art. It is a little overproduced with so many pages dedicated to being a pretty face. At least it's a helpful pretty face. Many guides which get overindulgent in artwork tend to have sloppy walkthroughs and tips. This isn't true here.
However, there is still the idea that this is not exactly a guide you'll need to conquer Uncharted. The game is pretty straightforward; it points you in any direction you need to go if you ever get stuck. Why buy a guide for a game that will already hold your hand as it is? It's helpful for treasures, but beyond that what does this guide tell you that the game already doesn't? If you must shoot a barrel to progress, the game will even tell you to do so if you're stuck.
This doesn't make the guide any less helpful, but it does compromise spending nearly twenty dollars on it. It's great for Uncharted fans because it is more than just a guide, at least. But the price is a lot for just the secrets alone.
Fantastic guide, but it's hardly even a last result. It might be worthwhile for the artwork, developer interviews, rewards and treasures, but not for so much money.

A Helpful Tool, December 26, 2007
This review is from: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Signature Series Guide (Paperback)
If your are like me and have trouble finding all of the little trinkets or bonuses in a game, then strategy guides are your saving grace. This guide is one of the best I've picked up. The photos and level descriptions are very helpful. It tells you where all of the treasures are hidden and provides an easy to understand walkthrough of each level/chapter. The cool thing about this guide is that it has lots of interesting concept art in the back of the book. You can see how the characters and environments evolved from a few rough sketches to the finished product on screen. This guide is a nice campanion piece to a fantastic game.

Great guide, but get it from the publisher..., February 3, 2010
This review is from: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Signature Series Guide (Paperback)
This guide is great, exceptional artwork, very detailed locations of the little stuff and all. The only thing bugging me is the price! As of the review $69+ is the norm for this book, and USED even!
