A Different Sort of RPG,
By "mdkey" (Albuquerque, NM USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Uncharted Waters (Video Game)
Instead of the typical sword and sorcery role-playing game, Uncharted Waters makes you the captain of a small ship during the Age of Exploration. Game play is addictive and rarely frustrating. Patience and endurance will usually result in a satisfactory outcome, and your character will marry the princess and become the king of Portugal within 8-10 hours of game time. Random events include battles with pirates and storms, with more pirates and fewer storms the longer you play. The only limitations are in the results of the game -- aside from becoming a pirate yourself, you _will_ marry the princess and become king of Portugal. In some respects, the game is actually educational, especially in terms of geography. All in all, this is in the "blast from the past" category and worth picking up if the price is right for you.

Great RPG for Sega Genesis,

This review is from: Uncharted Waters (Video Game)
Sega Genesis is probably the 2nd best game system ever (behind Nintendo and maybe behind Intellivision). Uncharted Waters is a game where you start as a young Portuguese kid who sails around doing differnet mission (finding certain goods, treasures, or killing pirates/Spanish/or Turkish fleets for money and fame. You start with a little money and some goods and you have to run trade routes and do missions to get money and fame to buy bigger ships (you can have 5 in all) and get more seasoned sailors until eventually you gain enough title from the King of Portugal to go resuce his daughter and become King yourself. You can sail all over the world and must discover numerous ports and exotic goods and weapons to sell or fight with and gain money in order to sail with a full fleet throughout the world completing you missions until you finally have to resuce the princess. A must have game for fans of adventure/RPG games.

Unbelievably cool,

I was amazed at how much fun this game was. Too bad the only buyable version is for the Genesis, this would be fun on the PC. I suspect that it is emulated, so get a good emulator, and find the ROM (probably at Romnation.net)
