5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome historical sailing simulation., December 9, 2003
This review is from: Uncharted Waters (Video Game)
This is a very engaging simulation.

You step in the role of a young Portuguese ship captain who wishes to regain for his family the respect they once had. So you will sail around the world, gaining fame and fortune. Periodically you will be asked by the King of Portugal to do favors for him. Since this is what lets you win the game, you of course will drop everything to do his wishes.

While you do not engage in swordplay, you will get to do many ship battles, all of which will please munchkins. Simply get a better fleet than your oponents, and you will win.

There's even a little romance.

Highly recommended.

This review is from: Uncharted Waters (Video Game)
I love Uncharted Waters. It can be a bit difficult to learn if you don't have the instructions, but here's a few tips.

1. If you are new to the game name your character "Black Beard" and you won't get attacked (in general). This isn't very good if you are experienced and want to fight with Pirates. The Pirates actually ignore you, and it can be difficult to catch them when you do want to fight.

2. Make sure you buy a telescope. If you don't have a telescope, you won't be able to see the ports until you are right next to them. The telescope is very important when you start out.

3. Find 2 ports that are close together and have goods that they can exchange for a profit. This is a bit difficult because prices change, but I have had luck buying sugar in Antwerp and selling it in London, then buying Wool in London and selling it in Antwerp. Make sure you check the prices, because they change and sometimes you can't make a profit doing this. I've also had luck buying sugar in Lisbon and Selling it in Bordeaux, then buying Grain in Bordeaux and selling it in Lisbon. You start out in Lisbon, to find Bordeaux, sail North following the coast. To find Antwerp, continue following the coast north from Bordeaux. To find London, Sail due north from Antwerp one screen, and turn West where the water is ripply one screen up. Go until you hit the land on the left side of that screen.

4. Don't staff up your crew too soon. A larger crew requires more water and food, and isn't necessary at first.
