Hello, Yukon Sunrise. Whether or not you consider some of the ingredients "unusual" will depend on how you normally cook and what foods you are used to. Yes, there are a number of ingredients that will likely need to be purchased from a natural food store, although most can be found in the natural food section or regular aisles of many large supermarkets. The recipes use only pure, natural, wholesome, and whole foods, so those who are used to eating mainly processed foods may find some of the ingredients "unusual."
i just glanced thru my copy. the bottom of each page lists if it is "free of..." It appears that well over half of the recipes are listed as soy free. I've tried a variety of recipes in this book but we aren't overly excited about any that i tried except one that i have tweaked to use as "cheese sauce" to make a "burger helper" type dish. We now mostly use Daiya brand from the store- dairy free and i think soy free but not sure.
