Book Description

Author's Note:  The Pug Connor series is available as part of the Rebellion Trilogy in Kindle format at Amazon with a discount price below the three separate novels.

STATE OF REBELLION:  A runaway federal government!  Western states in revolt!  Martial law in Sacramento!  America in a State of Rebellion!

"Had the gallows knot been placed to the side, behind the ear, Richard McFarland's neck would have snapped, delivering a swift death. As it was, the young California National Guard lieutenant twisted and convulsed for a long, agonizing two minutes before he died."

California is on the brink of secession, and those who oppose this drastic political maneuver are turning up dead. Federal Agent Nicole Bentley is sent to discover what she can about the movement and meets up with Assemblyman and National Guard JAG officer Daniel Rawlings, a man whose commitment to his country runs deep in his blood.  Resisting their mutual attraction, they uncover a plot devised by greedy men bent on taking power at any cost.

As Colonel Pug Connor, working under the direction of the President of the United States, seeks to root out the leaders of the Western Patriot Movement--a military cadre with a chip on its shoulder--Nicole and Dan find themselves literally in the crossfire. Can they end the dispute between the various factions before they all end up martyrs for the cause?

A fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat political thriller, State of Rebellion will keep you turning pages long into the night.

UNCIVIL LIBERTIES:  A new president!  A hijacked civilian airliner!  Eight minutes to decide!  Domestic terrorism brings America to a state of Uncivil Liberties!

"Shoot down a civilian airliner? That's not an option, Admiral."
"I'm sorry, Mr. President, but I believe it's your only option."

Moments after taking office, United States president Clay Cumberland faces a decision no one should have to make, and a civilian airliner is shot down to protect the American people from a new wave of domestic terrorism.  Fearing the loss of countless more lives, Colonel Pug Connor plunges into the fray, determined to root out the terrorists and bring peace back to the country he loves and has sworn to defend.  He finds a welcome ally--and a personal interest--in Senator Rachel McKenzie, a woman who feels the call to patriotism just as strongly. But when the terrorists are Americans themselves, determined to bring the nation into subjugation, Pug faces his biggest challenge of all, with stakes higher than ever.

Uncivil Liberties, the second of the Pug Connor novels, continues the war against domestic terrorism and takes the reader on a breath-taking ride from the very first page.

TO FAITHFULLY EXECUTE:  Election Day is looming and the fate of a united America lies in the hands of its citizens.  States are threatening to secede, politicians have their own agendas, and as rumors of treason rumble throughout the land, Pug Connor has a decision to make.  He can continue to serve the country he loves and watch it break apart, or he can take matters into his own hands and change the course of history. He hates the man he is forced to become, but with stakes this high, he forges on, regardless the cost.  His growing love for Senator Rachel McKenzie--and his fear regarding the possible loss of her respect--make his decisions much harder.

Pug's deputy director, Carlos Castro, faces no such conflict. He fully understands his nature: he is a stone-cold, instinctive killer, single-handedly seeking to rid the world of evil one terrorist at a time.

To Faithfully Execute questions the right of the government to interfere in the lives of citizens and asks, what would you do to preserve your freedom when it's threatened? The answer will surprise you as Gordon Ryan presents the third installment in the Pug Connor series.

BLOOD & TREASURE:  The fourth volume of the dynamic Pug Connor series will be out early in 2012.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Gordon Ryan has been a traditionally published author since 1994. In 2010, Pegasus Publishing republished each of his former novels and released his new thrillers, State of Rebellion and Uncivil Liberties.

About the Author

Gordon Ryan is a writer with a varied history. He has lived and worked in six foreign nations and a dozen or more states, including Alaska. He was a Recon Marine in the aftermath of the Cuban Missile Crisis, served in the Air Force in Thailand during the Vietnam War. He also served as a member of the American Embassy staff in Dublin, Ireland, during the violent seventies. His first published novel, Dangerous Legacy, was released in 1994 and he has published nine more over the intervening years with the Pug Connor novels, State of Rebellion and Uncivil Liberties being his newest releases. Needing to feed his family, he never gave up his day job as a city manager and chief executive of large homeowners' associations, but once he discovered the joys of fiction, writing has been the driving force. Now writing full-time, Gordon and his wife, Colleen, spend their time between the American northwest and the beautiful South Pacific.

2.0 out of 5 stars Well written conservative manifesto January 13, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
As with his "State of Rebellion", Mr. Ryan's characters are well-developed and believable. The story is well written. Action scenes will grab you. Plot flows nicely, though it ended with little closure.

I had trouble wading through it because of an excessive penchant for long, politically conservative, rants by various characters. Other points of view are given short shrift, if not derision.

Moderates and, especially, liberals will have difficulty wading through it. Mr. Ryan covers a political spectrum from merely conservative good guys to bad guys who are neo-con crazies.

I won't be reading another one by Mr. Ryan, though I respect the writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Series! March 12, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The second book in the Pug Conner series is just as good as the first. I picked up the first book, "State of Rebellion" as a freebie and upon completing that, rushed to buy the second and third books! The plot expands from the first book where California wants to secede from the union to the entire western U.S. joining their cause. Pug Conner is developed more in the second book, as well as the third (and from what I can find, there will be a fourth book out soon!). These books are on par with Tom Clancy's writings about Jack Ryan and the internal workings of the U.S. government, clandestine deals and corruption eating away at the foundations of the U.S. constitution. Gordan Ryan has written a great series and I intend to read and re-read these books again, as well as any others he may write with these well-developed and intricate characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another 5-Star Winner March 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
"Uncivil Liberties", is a very appropriate title for a very good book. After reading book 1, "State of Rebellion", which I thoroughly enjoyed, I knew I was hooked and just had to read the next one of the trilogy. Now that I've read book 2, I'm hooked more so and will most assuredly complete the trilogy with book 3, "To Faithfully Execute". If you enjoy political thrillers, do not deprive yourself of this most interesting, exciting, and suspenseful read. Keep them coming Mr. Ryan.

5.0 out of 5 stars More nail-biting action February 18, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
"Uncivil Liberties" is the second book in Gordon Ryan's ambitious Pug Connor series. I highly recommend that you first read "State of Rebellion - A Pug Connor Novel - Book One," since "Uncivil Liberties" is a continuation of that book. "State of Rebellion" is essentially the story about a movement in California to secede from the Union. The two primary characters, Dan Rawlings and Nicole Bentley, continue their roles in "Uncivil Liberties," as the secessionist movement spreads throughout the western states. Pug Connor, a former Marine now working in a special government anti-terrorist group, is a relatively minor character in the first book, but he takes on a leading role in "Uncivil Liberties."

As in "State of Rebellion," "Uncivil Liberties" hooked me almost immediately, with a newly inaugurated President having to make an instant life or death decision that could affect thousands of people. From there it's pretty much nonstop action as the western secessionist movement gains ground, while the United States faces another threat from foreign terrorists. As terrorists begin killing ordinary Americans on the streets, in shopping malls, and in sports stadiums, Pug Connor takes the lead in unraveling the mystery of who they are and who is sponsoring them. Is it the World Jihad group as claimed, or is the plot even more sinister? And will Americans be willing to give up their freedom in exchange for more security from terrorism?

"Uncivil Liberties" is a first class political-military thriller, as timely and as good as any books I've read in that genre. It would not be a reach to compare the author, Gordon Ryan, to Nelson DeMille. Both know how to ratchet up the tension as the story builds up momentum and heads to a dramatic climax. Although "Uncivil Liberties" has an ending, there are enough loose ends that it left me wanting more, and the book includes a preview of the next book in the series: "To Faithfully Execute - A Pug Connor Novel - Book Three."

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Great! March 14, 2011
By "Dan"
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Sorry to say I just finished Uncivil Liberties. I'm sorry to say that because I really, really didn't want it to end. It took me a while to finish it off because I knew I was near the end and just simply didn't want to part with it knowing the next in the series was not available yet. I'd read and ponder all the happenings going on and speculate on the finish. Soon I'd be back to the book reading another chapter because I couldn't stand it. Then I'd find something else to do for a while, again because I didn't want it to end. Back and forth, back and forth.

Once again, a fast paced book but still with excellent development and great depth on all characters. Yep, most all the characters from the first book ("State of Rebellion" - read it before this one) are still there and have involvement. The plot thickens deeper and deeper.

I don't want to say much as I myself try to avoid reading reviews that give away some of the story but this is an excellent read. It's just as good as "State of Rebellion". Mr. Ryan is able to captivate me, my imagination and this book really makes me seriously ponder current world events and all the possible "truths" behind what may seem like the truths out there. Naw, it's not some big conspiracy book like a Jessie Ventura work but at least for me, it really makes me think about current world events and how they might not always really be as they appear. With the background of the author, he'd be the type of person who could use his knowledge of military and politics to create a realistic plot ... and he does. Often I see in reviews for several "Indy" authors that their books are filled with grammatical mistakes. I'm not great with grammar as you can tell from my rather plain reviews but Mr.
