5.0 out of 5 stars Just What the Trivia Doctor Ordered!, July 10, 2006

Trivia afficiandos rejoice - here's another wonderful sampling of historical facts, personalities and events from the "Uncle John" franchise.

Like its 2001 predecessor which sold 500,000+ copies(!), this installment ranges through all ages and all continents to bring you interesting facts on people, places and sundry things. Fun, informative articles on the history of money, medicine, the Amish, Ninjas, art, inventions, sports, flowers, literature, disasters, purses, salt, famous encounters, great goofs in history, etc., etc. - this book has it all. (I especially like the entries that correct historical inaccuracies. And those entries that spotlight how Hollywood rewrites history in its films).

So, pony up your $16.95, sit back and enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Who hasn't heard of Wyatt Earp;but do you know his 2 middle names?, December 10, 2011
This review is from: Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Plunges into History Again (Paperback)
And how about this for History Ttivia? What was name of Bing Crosby's first group,in 1925? You'll find both answers in the one-liners at the bottom of pages 304 and 305.I've read and written Reviews on a whole bunch of these Readers, and couldn't begin to say which one was the best;because they have all been par excellent. If you enjoy reading History, this one is all about history;and no matter how much you've read, you are bound to find tons of factoids that ,well to put it mildly, you simply just didn't come across before.
Just for example;I have always been fascinated with The Knights Templar, and in this Reader you will find an excellent account and history of this long surviving and influencial organization;and explained as concisely as I have ever come across.
Whether it is such a modern cultural phenomenon as Pin Ball machines ,details of how Hollywood re-writes the History of The Titanic, the history of Military I.D.tags (Dog Tags),the history of the Sport of Kings (Falconry, not Horseracing),how the Mighty Pen has changed history with books like,Oliver Twist,Uncle Tom's Cabin,The Jungle, the history of Air-Conditioning,or the Patron Saint of Death,or what happened to the Maya,;this Reader is going to inform while entertaining you as you work your way through the over 500 informational and historical subjects. As you finish each subject and lay the Reader aside until your next throne visit;you'll be hard pressed ,not saying,"I didn't know that!"

Get the real story behind the Great London Fire, female Ninja's (yet, they are real), Hollywood's relentless meddling with history and much, much more.

This is an amazingly good book and I heartily recommend it. Buy it sight-unseen and you'll never regret it.

What a super read!
