5.0 out of 5 stars Still one of the greats, November 3, 2009
I really like this movie, and bought it again (to replace my old VHS) not too long ago in John Candy's three movie collection. I think this movie is one of the better comedies of the 80's. I am big fan of the comedies put out during that decade. This one of my favorites because it is a funny movie and it is clean and safe for kids to watch. There are not many comedies out there that put out anymore that are safe for kids. This is one movie I am happy to have in my collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars The importance of being an uncle, September 11, 2009
By S. N. Hobbs "sue_hobbs" (Sacramento, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This movie seems frivolous on the surface, but I consider it a very significant statement about how important the role of an uncle (or aunt) in the life of a child can be. It is an object lesson, both for parents and uncles/aunts on the influence of extended family for good or ill. It also happens to star one of my all-time favorite performers, the late John Candy, in one the hilarious and heart-tugging roles for which I think he is best remembered.

The only reason I gave this film 4 stars instead of 5 is because of what i consider excessive use of profanity. Some of it is actually appropriate and even clever in the way it's handled with the younger children. But a lot of it is just annoying and makes the writers seem unimaginative.

Still, I highly recommend this film.
